Sequential Gear Shifting... which way?

by Mike Beaucham » Mon, 10 Dec 2001 14:17:14

Hey all!
I was wondering how to set up my Sequential Gear shifter on my thrustmaster
wheel.. specifically for Rally Racing.

Does anyone know which way rally cars are set up? Specifically, do they push
forward for the next gear, or do they pull towards them for the next gear?
For some reason, I thought I saw Colin Mcrae on speedvision pushing forward
to go to the next gear (exe 3->4 ), but my friend thinks it's the opposite.
Any help? thanks

But if someone tells you they saw different it could be true... the shift
lever can be set any way the driver wants.  That's very easy if it uses
electrical switches.

It won't in a race car, since the boxes use motorbike-
-style selector barrels on a mechanical linkage.  If
it's powered, it'll be F1-style paddles or buttons.

I've seen both configurations used, unfortunately.
Right-for-up and left-for-down seems standardised,
but not push-pull :-(
