Apparently its possible to fiddle with some of the edited/cracked
tracks that are available in DTR (Nocks Hill 'at night' is one such
track) and use them to fool the game into recording all kinds of lower
(times) than normal results. The tech person at my website described
the process to me last night, and apparently its an undetectable way to
cheat online as well as offline (this isnt connected to the .str file
edit cheat we knew about already). I'll post more about this after I
get more details about how its supposed to work, and what can be done
about it (though my tech person says its all but hopeless to defend
against it).
One thing is for sure: people on the internet who participate in
different Online and Offline competitions are rightly 'turned off' by
the idea that cheats exist and that some people might be using them.
Cheats that cant be detected and prevented are obviously the worst.
If someone doubts the validity of using track-switching to make
impossible times (online and offline) I'll see what I can do to get a
lot more specific information about how it works, because its not right
for people to be in the dark about knowing if the game they are racing
with is 'water tight' or not. Right now my tech person is advising me
to cancel the Online Championship we just announced.. its better not
to run something if you cant prevent unfairness.
