Seems that I am going to need to have about a 150ms ping to get a fast
multiplayer game of nfs3 via kali.  What average ping should I expect
to get from others on a 128k ISDN?  How fast is ethernet?

I played a few IPX games with a guy on ethernet conneX.  We played 1
on 1 race with no traffic, no cops and no other computer opponents
(excellent performance), 1 on 1 vs computer cars (very good
performance),
and 1 on 1 race with traffic and cops (very good performance).  The
one with the cops was pretty: police cars chasing you, trying to
setup road blox, and their blaring about "got a yellow diablo going
over 140mph..."... ;-)  Note that my system is a lowly P166MMX,
monster3d, 32EDO.

That was an ethernet-128k peer to peer game.  I've got ethernet and I'll
be in kali 9:00 PM to 2:00 AM EST at #racing.  I'm looking for:
1) 56k connection for ethernet-56k peer to peer
2) 128k or faster for 3+ player clinet-server game

In my Ethernet, we get <50 ms ping (measured with Quake 2)

NFS3 runs perfectly on Ethernet LAN.  Of course my K6-200 slows down at the
starting line with a full grid of cars.  Otherwise I'm very happy with it.
I would imagine that Cable modem and ISDN users will be fine too.

Have a good one,

Mansfield

Get rid of NFS3 and get GPL if you want to race online.  I've tried both.  I
never was able to get a race going with NFS3 while online: EA either doesn't
know that its doing or doesn't care what its doing.  NFS3's online play is
totally worthless.

Papyrus and GPL, however, know full well what they are doing.  Online play
(56k) is smooth and easy with a 56k connection.   I haven't tried any more
players, but I would imagine four or possibly five (with a tweaked ini file)
would work also.  Kudos to Papyrus for a great sim and a good online play
module.

EA is EA-- they will never change, nor will they ever get my money again.
