Diamond MM Does It Again!

It took me 20 weeks, phone calls and several emails to recieve my Monster 2
rebate, but I did finally receive it. So what do I do, buy another Diamond
product....

Picked up a Monster Fusion for my second computer. I decided to go Diamond
for two reasons, of the Banshee boards, theirs is rated slightly faster, and
the second was the software bundle. I downloaded the MotoCross Madness demo
and liked it. The Monster Fusion box says that the full version is included
inside the box.

Open the box and there is no MotoCross Madness, only a postcard that
requires I mail it in BEFORE January 1, 1999 to receive the game. Will I
never learn! Nowhere on the box does it indicate that Motocross madness in a
mail-in offer with an expiration date.

This is the last straw - no more Diamond products ever!

Very Unhappy customer.

I bought the Diamond Fusion as well. Both the Unreal and Motocross
Madness were in the box. They probably ship the cards as soon as they
have them even if the dont have the software bundle complete and just
put in a coupon. Crapy way to do it but look at software publishers
thier shipping games that are so buggy you can't hardly play them. I
guess my Fusion just shipped later after they got there shipments. As
for the rebate, well I wont hold my breath.

Hmm, the Monster Fusion I bought about 2-3 weeks ago had MotoCross Madness
in it.

As for rebates Diamond is notoriously slow getting those proccessed.  It
took nearly 6 months to get my rebate for the Stealth S220 I bought.

The Diamond is only slightly faster than the others because Diamond
overclocks the board slightly, so you could of done the same thing with any
of them.

I can totally relate.  I bought the Diamond Monster 3D II in august of '98
and it, too, indicated that the following were  FREE INSIDE!

Full versions of:

    - Incoming
    - Battle Zone
    - Monster Truck Madness 2

Bad enough having to send in a rebate coupon to get my $50 bucks US as
advertised on Diamonds site.   However the coupon I got from my retailer
indicated that said I'd get only $40 -- Canadian!  That's like $26 US!
Lucky I had checked diamonds site.  Needless to say I opted to send my
rebate claim to the US address.  I guess the cheque is in the mail...

Now back to the topic.  Although the Incoming and Battle Zone CD's were
inside, I found that I had to mail a coupon to get the Monster Truck Madness
2! .  Funny thing is I was looking forward to the driving game more so than
the spacy games.  I guess when Diamond says FREE INSIDE they are referring
to coupons not software.  What are they selling -- computer hardware or
breakfast cereal.

Like you, I don't have time for their shit nor the notion of sending in
rebate claims or coupons for software.  Due to a busy schedule, and to add
insult to injury, I missed the mail in date for MTM2!

I paid a hefty premium to buy the Monster board here in Canada and generally
my read is that they *may* have offered only a slight improvement over other
3dfx competitors products at the time I bought mine -- most likely drivers.

I think Diamond owes us all an explanation.

You should move to Australia.  We just assume the rebates etc do not apply
to us (they never do) and go by the sticker price.
Very simple.

Take it back to the retailer and show them the sticker/label which
says it should be in the box, and ask for a refund of your money.
Then go and buy a Banshee from another manufacturer. I doubt you will
notice any speed difference between brands unless you sit there with a
benchmarking program, and that goes for most cards these days anyway.

While I sympathize with everyyone who feels they got ripped off, I have to
wonder why people are basing their HARDWARE BUYING DECISION on pack-in titles.

Pack-in titles are almost NEVER FULL RELEASE (even when they say they are) and
only inflate the price of the hardware product you are buying.  This is why I
almost ALWAYS buy the OEM version of any hardware product.  Sure, these are
harder to find and you will probably have to get mail order or through a
web-store but you will always save money and you won't be disappointed with
missing or demo versions of games.

I really liked the cereal analogy in the previous posts.  It seems that everyone
is buying the cereal to get the prize inside then throwing away the food.
Remember WHAT you are buying and WHY and forget all the bogus software.  It's
just like all those stupid commercials...

I, like you, don't just purchase the product for the "Goodies."  I
want the hardware and I want it to work without problems, as it has so
far. Unlike buying New Software, so buggy you need RAID just to
install it, most hardware mfgs. lure more of the kids by offering
these "software bundles" along with there product with the marketing
hopes of selling many more that way.

I have built my last three computers and Most, if not all came without
any bundled software. The one time I did buy one for the software(for
my younger son...14 years old) bundle I also got ripped, but it's like
they say ....you get what you pay for........All they included were
certificates that were out dated.....

Happy with just the hardware...   :-)

BattleZone is cool.  They say it was the sleeper of 1999.  I agree.
Just finishing up the single player missions to prepare for some online
strategy games.

Still haven't sent mine in.   Procrastination :)

Umm..  My Monster3D came with CD's for all the games.  You just needed to
send in a coupon to upgrade the Incoming game to 'full'.  That wasn't a problem
because my Matrox Mystique G200 came with the 'full' version of Incoming.

I guess they substitute cards for the CD's when they are out of stock.

I never expect to mail in the rebate.  If I get to it well that would be great!
$50 USD ~= $75 CAD?
