Well i`ve been on the PC scene since about the times when a P120Mhz was the
latest bit of kit....( 10 years..? or more ), I`ve always built my own
computers and even my own race***pits and modified pedals and steering
wheels etc... so imaging my hate towards my current computer.. It`s a AMD
Thunder Bird 1.4 GHZ,
512Mb of ram,
ABit KT7a mainboard,
Soundblaster 1024 live,
Geforce 4 Ti4600 128mb,

etc etc,

to put things easy... i`m running XP, i`ve gt the latest Gefore drivers,
soundblaster drivers, VIA drivers etc etc... and oddly when ever i play a
racing game i get about 10-15 seconds into the driving bit and it either
crashes to desktop, or reboots the computer.
Now nothing is overclocked, my Bios settings are something like, AGP 128Mb,
4x enabled, i`ve tried slower setting and still nothing,

Yet if i play a 1st person shooter i can play all day ?
Now at the mo, i cant play....

GrandPrix 4,
Nascar 2003,
Total Immersion Racing,
F1-2002...
and about ever other commerical racing game on the planet..?

Yet Live for speed works ?
All my 1st person games work, all my other style of games work.. just not
racing games...
I`ve tried Direct-x 9, and then gone back to XP standard one.... i even done
a complete reformat and built it up from scratch but nothing ..?

So anyone shed some light my way, or is this going to be a nice present for
the dustman ??

> ABit KT7a mainboard,

I haven't got time to go check on this, but VIA's website recommends a
particular type of 4in1 driver if you have an Nvidia card. I had all sorts
of problems with XP and games until I removed the latest 4in1's (the
installer will do it for you) and installed this version. Some games were
fine (though usually only 2d ones like Cossacks) but most 3d would CTD or
lock up.

I ditched my 1.4 and KT7a long ago after using it for less than 6 months.
It was nothing but trouble and I vowed never to use a VIA chipset again.

Sorry for the unhelpful reply, but I wasted more time than I care to
remember on that combo and replaced it with a P4 chip and board.  With all
other hardware identical and keeping the same Win98 install (!!!) all worked
perfectly from that point forward.

I am sure somehow your rig could be made to work.  If your time is
worthless, it may be a good idea to pursue it.  It more likely is time to
upgrade since that chip isn't anywhere near fast enough to run NR2003 or
other new stuff anyway.

Hope it helps
