Galles International Racing open house

by Beau Mersere » Mon, 15 Jan 1996 04:00:00

Galles International Racing had there open house today in Albuquerque,
NM.  There were four cars on display.  The first looked to be a setup
for an oval track.  The second car was the Valvoline car that Al Unser
Jr. won Long Beach with.  The third car was in the back and had the
engine cowling removed and had wets on.  The fourth car was in the
back on blocks and had a super speedway wing on with no tires on it.j
The new driver for Galles is Eddie Lawson.  Here's a quote from a
handout:

"Hustory shows us that motorcycle racing serves as a major talent pool
for another form of motorsport - automobile racing.  There's a rising
star in American auto racing, whose racing resume includes a career as
a motorcycle champion.  Eddie Lawson has logged thousands of road
racing miles on two wheel.  Lawson won eight major titles, including
four prestigous 500cc Grand Prix World Championships, during his 13
year career as a factory-backed motorcycle racer.  In 1996, Lawson
will be joing the Albuquerque, New Mexico - based Indycar team as they
enter their 14th consecutive Indycar Season.  Galles Racing's record
included ninteeen race wins, the 1992 PPG Indycar World Championship
and the 1990 Indianapolis 500.  Top-place finishes appears to be one
thing Eddie Lawson and Galles Racing International have in common".
(Any spelling errors are mine alone).

Lawson's new car was black and gold and is sponsored by Delco
Electronics.

My friend asked Rick Galles if he was going to race the team at
Inianapolis and Galles replied "Indy and Michigan".  My friend also
asked Galles about Penske not coming,  "Good, less competition".

My highlight however was meeting Crystal Bernard (Helen from Wings),
she's dating Eddie Lawson.  WOO HOO what a babe!

Later,
Beau
