If you don't have a lot of bucks, check out the ACT Labs RS. I purchased
one recently, and the improvement over my trusty old T2 is astounding. The
single biggest factor is the complete lack of any kind of dead zone, giving
extremely precise response. I can finally drive N2 and F1RS without feeling
like a clod for dinging other drivers. The wheel itself is extremely
comfortable, the pedals are solid and haven't slid an inch yet, on carpet.
The shifter paddles are flimsy, but work well once you're accustomed to the
feel. The pedal throw is a bit short. The wheel autocenters quite nicely,
and for me the tension is just about perfect. The clamping mechanism hasn't
allowed the wheel to shift at all. As you may have guessed, I kind of like
this thing. FWIW.

For some reason, the wheel doesn't center in
GPL. It should, and is probably a driver issue.
I have been too busy with NROS to try and follow
up on the problem.
The Force RS works through the PC serial port,
and doesn't connect to the gameport. So far,
I'm not aware of a way to make DOS based sims
read the serial port input. It only works in
software that supports win95/98 direct input.
I was previously using a GP1, and find the
ACT Labs wheels to be a lot better.

Hehe, I'm just trying to help save all of us some cash, and every little
bit can help.
