Steering Wheel problems

by Cowl » Thu, 06 Jul 2000 04:00:00

I have an Interact V4FX racing wheel and every 20-30 seconds it appears as
not connected in the game controllers window of Windows 98.

I have had this problem since I got my wheel about a year ago but because I
seem to be able to play all my racing games without too much of a problem I
have not bothered until now.

I just got the demo of F1 World Grand Prix and it just keeps flashing up
controller not connected every few seconds. I like to try most racing games
and I would really like to be able to play this. The problem has never
affected GPL, Rally Championship, SBK or most demos. With SBK2000 the red
light indicating force feedback goes on and off while playing and in F1 2000
occasionally I will start a game and the wheel will be locked in one
position and just not respond.

I have tried changing the controller id and also the Poll with interrupts
enabled setting but it has not helped. I have tried all incarnations of the
drivers that have come out for the wheel but they have all had the same
problems. I have contacted Interact but have never had a response or
solution.

My wheel is connected to a SoundBlaster live value. If I connect my MS
Precision Pro to the same port it works perfectly. I also had the same
problem with my previous soundcard on a different motherboard so it must be
the wheels drivers.  Does anyone know of a solution or if it is possible to
use another wheels drivers and if so which wheel do you suggest?

Thanks in advance.

Ian
