TOCA2: are backmarkers smart?

by GoGe » Sun, 20 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I'm new in TOCA2 and couldn't quite determine  wheather the AI
backmarkers are smart and will let me pass or will continue to race me
no matter if they are 2 laps down.

Can someone confirm this?

So far I did only one novice-20-lap race at Thruxton leaving everybody
3 laps behind, but they were so slow I couldn't determine if they are
letting me go or I'm simply too fast.
Thank you for your kind reply, it will help a lot!

PS
Why can't I get any speech? I do have an old S.Blaster Pro II sound
card. Is this too weak for all sounds? Would a new PCI64 be a good
choice?
Thanx!

As you've probably observed by now, they'll just drive in the middle of the
track and you'll have to find your own way around them.  Racing for position in
expert is a little more competative though.  Maybe I'm just paranoid but it
seems to me that if you've been rude to one of these AI drivers they'll
retaliate the next chance they get!  Team mates in the expert Championship
series are interesting, opposing manufacturing teams will protect each other
and block you pretty effectively while your own team mate will give way
politely.  In the end you'll find you can always make a "cannonball" pass on
the inside of a corner and as you improve the AI will cease to be a challenge.
Understand an upcoming patch will hopefully improve AI in this already good
game.
