Saturday: OK, I got the Le Mans track! I foolishly take the Brabham for a
test drive. After 4 aborted laps, I went for the Eagle, my favourite car.
Finally record some laps, times beginning with 4:xx. Oh dear. Decide to junk
default setup and install Spa setup.
Sunday: More testing and tweaking, can run consistent high 3:23s. Car is
fishtailing everywhere. More tweaking. Car still very hyperactive, but
decide I can live with it.
Monday: Decide to have an Intermediate offline race against the AI. Set a
3:21 (PB) in practice, and am very pleased until Clark does a 3:16 and I'm
ninth on the grid by end of session. From the grid, get a good start, and
tear past Stewart, Surtees and Hulme, round Dunlop Curve, down to the first
esses, My Eagle is given an almight whack from behind by a white car with a
red stripe on it...
Good practice start, I tell myself, and retire. Restart race. Again make a
good start, make a few places, and all goes well until Mulsanne, when a big
white car cruises up behind as I come up to the braking area for the hairpin
at the end of the straight. Yes, I got airborne again, thanks to my
Honda-driving pal.
Restart race agin, telling myself it's all good practice. In fact, I proceed
to spend a looong time practicing starts as on each of 5 more restarts, I am
rear-ended by McLaren, Surtees, Amon and Surtees again (twice) before
completing a lap, yet if I brake any later, I can't make the corners. I Give
up. I thought this only happened at Monza? Am I doing something wrong?

I just finished a few slower laps with the RED car and was amazed to find
that *** white Honda tucked in behind me at the end of the Mulsaane
straight(dang horsey mirrors!!)  I figured I was a gonner by the next sharp
lefty (is that Indianapolis?) that comes after a few gentle rights...but
there too the white car behaved...I let him by at the esses with tthe
buildings (coward I know!)
so I didn't get to see how he behaved after the dunlop hill.  But I was
gonna post how mild mannered he was...of course this was practice not an
actual race....

Are you braking late enough for the slow corners (Arnage, Mulsanne,
Tetre Rouge)? I find that a car's length after the dark groove starts is
the place to brake, but you do have to be instantly on the point of lock
up to slow down enough make the corner.

No problems with Surtees, but I'm not yet quick enough to win an offline
race (typical lap 3.19-3.20)

Sounds like my VROC races.  If I brake early enough to make the corner, I get
punted by the hotshoe I passed when he threw it off the track 2 turns earlier.
:(
That's why I prefer "no shift-r" races, but that's another thread...
