Does any run the (1989) Papyrus game called Indianapolis 500, The
Simulation?  It is still an excellent game, but I can't get past halfway
without crashing. I've got good setups and can run up front. I've won
the 10, 30, and 60 lap races, but I can't go all the way.

I drive like Mario, and have about the same luck

I drove more like Mikey.  I don't know how many miles I put in on that
track.  More times than not I crashed out.  Sometimes due to AI diving
across my bow headed for pit lane.  But mostly because I would get too
hot headed when ever I got behind or when I could smell the leader just
ahead.  You've got to admire those boys and gals for keeping their heads
together for 500 laps at that track.  This was my first experience with
a REAL race sim.  I think I still have calluses from holding the
throttle button down on my joystick! <G>

I used to drive like that....I ALWAYS finish the race though now...The key
is have a setup to were you can have good fuel mileage, with good speed
and good handling, a good thing to keep in mind is not to make passes in
corners, wait till you reach the straigthaways...hope this helps...

Wanna know how patient you gotta be to finish a race in that game??  Put
it this way...I was sooo careful, that the first time I won, I finished
4th, 1 lap down to the leader...

I was awesome at qualifying with the Lola-Buick, but i never attempted to
race because the week after i got my best run of 232.XXX, i sold my 386 to
buy a Cyrix 6x86 P150, and i found N2, ICR2, and later GP2 alot better!
Mario Andretti Racing and World Circuit were classics i love also.  And
dont forget join the Simulation Indy Racing League, its great!

How could you win and be a lap down in fourth at the same time?

It's very, very difficult to do, Jim, but once you've achieved it you'll
never go back to trying to win from 1st. position again! :-)

Maybe he views finishing as a personal victory?

me?

Oh yeah?! Well, the first time I was 2 laps down I won by coming in 8th,
15 cars behind the leader on the 77th lap after the start. You shoulda'
seen it!
