Dear all,

I was just wondering if some changes could be adopted to the
rec.autos.simulators, principally to make it updated to the current date.

With the addition of Grand-Prix Legends and the 2 new drag racing simulators
(Also many new upcoming titles coming for X-mas), a complete new revised FAQ
would be a very good thing for the newsgroup.

Maybe include also a FAT (Frequently asked Thread) about "Where can I find
tracks" posts we receive at least once a day on r.a.s.  (explication of the
legal/illegal track things).

Well, it's IMHO, I don't know what's your Opinion Michael, but I just find
the FAQ very old.

I have plenty of good ideas (like the implementation of the header like I
have in my subject).  I hope we can have a serious discussion here.   (And
please, don't think I want to do this to get some influence here, Niet).  I
lurk in many other newsgroup (at least 5-6 others) and I always found that a
good FAQ and a good organization from people who post more frequently is
very enjoying.

Actually the regular posting I place here is really only an introduction
to r.a.s. and is intended for new readers.  It is not a "serious" FAQ,
but is useful for "newbies" (if they read it and understand it).  While
it's been awhile since I updated the list of Acronymns for sims
discussed in this group it is fairly up-to-date.  It has CPR, F1RS,
SODA, and TOCA.  I've also made it a point to keep the contact portion
up-to-date.

Well, I guess I should add GPL to the list and N3.

This is a good idea, all we need is a solid volunteer or two to put it
together and maintain it.  It could be an actual FAQ (where my posting
is just an introduction).  So, do we have any takers?

Oh and "How can I do screenshots ?" And "Why is the game bad with a
keyboard?". You know, usual newbie questions.  I would think that most of
the people read a FAQ before posting, so it doesn't hurt to have a better
FAQ.

Well... I could make a draft of the new FAQ in 1 week, I don't know.  I'm
sure somebody else could do another part (FAT per exemple).   Since I look
like the only taker here, it all depends if you like me now ;-)  .  Should
we continue this by mail ?

With the T.g.s.n and alt.game.gplegends growning very fast, I think it's the
time to do some little changes here.

To be perfectly honest, I bet only a small handful read FAQ's before
posting.  How many people actually read the README.TXT files with
programs and patches?

For example, the current introduction FAQ has a listing for the NASCAR2
FAQ.  One would assume that people would go check it out before asking
questions on how to do a screenshot or the other many questions asked.

Actually, I think it might be better if we have individual FAQ's for
each sim that has large coverage in r.a.s.  I think it would be more
useful than a "generic" FAQ.  This would also spread the workload.

We sorta toyed with this awhile back, but we didn't get much support.
There is a process to follow to create "official" FAQs.  This may not be
necessary, but I do think a regular posting of the "dedicated" FAQ's is
a good idea.  At the present I am only aware of 2 existing FAQs (NASCAR2
& ICR2).  The GP2 FAQ lost its home.  Does anyone know of a website that
may still carry it?  If so I can add it back to the Intro FAQ for r.a.s.

The process of "officializing" the individual sim FAQs may not be worth
the effort, but I do think it would helpful to have them posted on a
regular basis.  Monthly would be nice, but bi-weekly would be better, as
many news servers keep only about 2 weeks worth of USENET news on the
disks.

Any feedback?
