NHRA IS COOL OVER ALL!!!!!!!!

by gt86 » Wed, 26 Aug 1998 04:00:00

A few weeks ago I kind of went along with some guys on downing NHRA. Well
after a couple weeks of playing the game and getting deep into it this is a
very great sim over all. Ok 3dfx support is not very good ( not Tantrums
fault from what I hear they waited and waited on the code for a long time
from 3dfx and couldn't wait anymore). Pedal and wheel problems this is very
minor and can be fixed easily. The sounds are totally awesome the header
flames are great. The weather realism has surpassed every other racing sim
ever made the car physics are good aswell, the Ai are good but can be alot
better.

This sim is great overall they have all the major things handle and have
done a better job in many important realistic sim areas than any other sim
company to date. Yes I am a Burnout playtester and I stand by the game I
tested it also is a great drag racing game but it's just a totally different
type drag game than NHRA there is enough room for them both. So guys quit
flaming Tantrum their game is top notch overall with a few tiny bugs which
can fixed quickily. Great job tantrum, but Burnout PCE and Burnout 2 are
just around the corner <VBG>

Finally another person speaks up about the game and I agree about your
statements..
Well put.

I'm gonna join this thread and give a resounding "Amen!"

I have been playing this sim almost exclusively for the past week and
haven't gotten tired at all, it's just THAT good.

So instead of repeating everything gt86 said, I'll just suggest that if
you haven't played...go get it.  This is as close to sub-five-second, 300
mile per hour terror we'll likely ever see.

    Congratulations Tantrum.

20 minutes? takes 45 secs on my 166 mmx 4 meg 3dfx, need a upgrade maybe?

You have everything the real NHRA guys cutomize between runs

Watch John Force sometime

I think your totally right. I mean if it wasnt for the fact that:

It takes 20minutes to load 1minute of racing
3dfx support is bad
Hardly customize your car settings
Bad damage model (never seen a car smash into so many pieces before)...
altho thats not so important
Few Bugs

It would be a good game, but if every game had its bad points fixed, they
all would be good.

45 SECONDS!!!!!  Get the F%&# outa here! Something has gotta be wrong there! They'd
better patch that! In that time I could restart the computer, load ICR2, watch the intro
and then jump into 50 laps at Elkhart lake!

Actually, the load times can vary signifigantly with what graphics option
you
choose and whether you choose the in car driver. I have been playing around
with
different hard drives and swap file sizes. With a Mode 4 Fujitsu it was
taking me over
30 seconds to load, with a bigger swap file and my Seagate 9.1 gig 7200 rpm
Ultra
DMA-2 it only takes 10 seconds. It is my understanding that the upcoming
patch
will address this issue.

45 secs is the worse it you'll have to wait, which they are suppose to be
patching it and if you don't have 45 secs to wait on something, you must be
to much of a hurry anyway.
Plus who wants to run open wheel no racing anyway if your going race put
ssome fenders on the cars and go stock car racing the only true racing
around :)

I might also add here that any background programs running such as an anti
virus program will significantly slow the load times also.

National Hot Rod Association. If I'm not mistaken they cover everything from
local grudge races in the Gremlin to top fuel and funnys.  Last time I went
to a race though was when Roland Leong was racing Don Prudome in a 1600 hp
funny that would do 6 second quarters. I think they're a little quicker now.

wow.  i'm assuming leong was in a hawiian punch car.  was prudhomme in the
pepsi challenger?

and yes.. very much faster.  4 second times for both nitromethane fuel
funnys and top fuel dragster classes.
