Running P-100, Super55CWA motherboard w/newst BIOS.

CPU has info on it showing that with jumper changes the clock speed can be
set up to 133.  I make the adjustments to the jumper settings and re-boot.
It restarts and indicates that its running at P-133 but then after a few
lines of the config.sys file......hangs up.

I understand that overclocking is dangerous to your health as well as your
CPU but I was wondering if there was any other adjustment to the CPU that
needs to be made to make the overclock work.  And before everyone
asks.....No, I just can leave it alone :) ---- heck, I just found the
website to upgrade my BIOS from 1.2 to 2.0 and my DMA bench results
doubled.

Thanks in advance.

Check what speed your bus is running at.
Also I feel you "over" over-clocked it. From P100 to a P133 is
too bigger jump. Try setting it to a P120. And once again
check your bus speed. I'm pretty sure that a P120 requires a
60 mhz bus speed where as a P133 needs a 66Mhz bus speed.

Take a look at

http://sysdoc.pair.com

This site contains _everything_ you need to know about overclocking.

One thing you should try is to raise the voltage at which the CPU is working.

I overclocked my P166 to P200 two weeks ago without a problem thus far. With
higher voltage (didn't try normal voltage though...)

Success,

Jo

The other thing to check is whether your board will do it. For example;
many giga-byte boards check and will disable the chip if you overclock.
Setting it back to the correct settings then works fine again.

P100 to 133 isn't a big jump. What you have to do is get your self a
big fan - it is call "ice cap" in my country. Overclocking generate
lots of heat, if you can get rid-of the heat, then you are ok.

check out overclocking page http://sysdoc.pair.com

I am running my 166MMX at 207.5Mhz (83 * 2.5) without any problem
If you say P100 to 133 is a big jump, what about me?

How do people overclock a processer.If it's a 166mmx like i got than it's
running at 166 or maybe a little faster considering it's mmx .  I can't
figure out how you do it.

I have a 166mmx and would love to know how to overclock it..

You have to change the multiplier or external clock speed on the
motherboard.  Your 166 is running at 2.5 x 66mhz.  You could change it to 3
x 66 giving you a P200.  With the increased speed comes a lot of added
heat, so unless properly cooled you stand a good chance of damaging the
system.  Some new motherboards support (most unofficially due to pressure
from Intel) bus speeds greater than 66mhz (such as 75 and 83).  Thus with
one of these boards it would be possible to run your 166 at 83x2.  This
would be quite a bit faster than a stock 166 due to the higher bus speed.

You can either increase the multiplier or the bus speed. If you are running
a "OEM" board then it is more than likely running at the factory bus speed
of 66mhz.

Your board may or may not do this. Try for a 3x multiplier and see if it
boots. If so, get a good fan. I wouldn't personally reccommend that you
drop bus speed to gain CPU speed. Example: 60 mhz bus x 3  = 180 mhz. Stay
with the 66 bus speed. Or up it if you have a m/b that supports it.

Like everyone says. Go to the sysdoc page. Toms knows all.. Thought a quick
run down might help you.
