OT: tech wankers...whats an .idx file?

By accident, I discovered the 'my documents' folder was overflowing with
thousands of files with similar names and extensions.   I had probably 3 to
4 thousand files with file names like this: ca06.idx  ctdf.idx etc.
Anybody have a clue where and what these little ***s are?

thanks

IDX was the extension dBase 3 used for its indexfiles...

Give that man a doggy biscuit :)

There are other index files as well.  For example, older versions of
Netscape used .snm for it's mail folder indexes (and it's primary source
of netscape.exe crashes :) )
