Hi everyone,

Thought I should give you all a small christmas gift which I hope
you'll find useful.

I've put together a tool for GPL which will do this:

        *Generate Practise reports
(a practise/qual report similar to the one in GPL)

        *Generate Race reports
(a race report similar to the one in GPL with some stuff
        added)

        *Generate Lap Charts
(lists all drivers laps with indication if they were
off the track at any time etc)

        *Generate Lap by lap reports
(gives you a complete LapByLap race report listing overtaking
action, off track excursions, retirement etc etc -
a short example is at the bottom of this message)

*Generate Complete reports (all the above)

When your arms are sore from too much online racing you can use this
program to find out how races went. :)

As input for all this the program uses a replay (.rpy) file. So now
you don't have to export the standings anymore, just save a part of
the replay and you can generate the reports afterwards.

The program is a console application meaning you have to dive into a
textbox to use it. But this program is intended as a part in another
tool which will be windows based (when released).

This program has not been tested very much, so (just as your favourite
TV-commentator) it might make mistakes in spotting the right driver
etc. I'm not aware of any bugs ATM, but if you notice any, please
report them to me via mail and I'll try to iron them out.

The program can be downloaded from:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Read the textfile for more info.

Cheers,

/Martin

Example of LapByLap Report:

Start of the race:
Polesitter Jim Clark in his/her Lotus leads the field as the flag
drops.

Lap 1:
Pedro Rodriguez goes off the track but rejoins.
Lodovico Scarfiotti overtakes Richie Ginther.
Lodovico Scarfiotti overtakes Jean-Pierre Beltoise.
Lodovico Scarfiotti is in position 14 at the end of the lap.
Mike Parkes overtakes Chris Irwin.
Mike Parkes is in position 13 at the end of the lap.
Graham Hill overtakes Jim Clark.
Graham Hill is in position 1 at the end of the lap.
Jim Clark looses the lead.
The new race leader is Graham Hill.

Lap 2:
Martin Granberg overtakes Jacky Ickx.
Martin Granberg is in position 19 at the end of the lap.

Lap 4:
Jacky Ickx overtakes Martin Granberg.
Jacky Ickx is in position 19 at the end of the lap.
John Surtees goes off the track but rejoins.
Pedro Rodriguez retires his/her Coventry.

<snip>

Lap 9:
John Surtees overtakes Bruce McLaren.
John Surtees is in position 8 at the end of the lap.
What would become the fastest lap of the race is set by Jim Clark.
The time is an impressing 1m07.221s.

Jim Clark wins the race 02.734s ahead of Graham Hill.
Last of the podium finishers were Jack Brabham,
finishing 07.893s behind the winner.

great program Martin

a couple though:
it doesn't give race results if the start of the race is missing from the
replay
you seem to have spelt practice wrongly (not a real issue but i thought i'd
mention it anyway)

keep up the good work

Thanks!

Haven't noticed the problem with missing starts myself and can't
reproduce it. Do you know of a file available on the net which has
these problems or can you mail one to me?

How many laps are missing at the start?

The spelling error is fixed now! :) Strange, I've written "practise"
for ages not knowing it was wrong in this context.

I can add another problem in version 1.0, the program will crash while
doing LapByLap reports under certain conditions.

I've made a new version (1.1) fixing this and the spelling error. It's
at:

<snip>

Mmmm, I wonder what my first report of an online race start will look
like?

Start of the race:
Polesitter Jim Smith in his/her Eagle leads the field as the flag
drops.

lap 1:
Jack Jones hits Pete Ives car
Pete Ives hits Mike Brown's car
Jack Jones hits Martin Samuels car
Martin Samuels hits Mike Brown's car
Jeffery Horowitz hits Mike Brown's car
Billy Budd hits Pete Ives car
Martin Samuels goes off the track
Graham Clark goes off the track but rejoins
Graham Clark hits Jack Jones car
Jack Jones hits Mike Brown's car
Pete Ives goes off the track but rejoins
Pete Ives goes off the track
Jeffrey Horowitz hits Mike Brown's car... again Doh!
Mike Brown goes off the track and hits Pete Ives again... Jesus will
this never end
Martin Samuels retires...  I think I heard swearing!
Billy Budd hits Jeffrey Horowitz car...  I feel tired
Graham Clark hits Peter Ives car and then learns the art of flight... oh
my God!
Jack Jones retires... not much you can do with no wheels
Mike Brown hits Jeffrey Horowitz car... well makes a change
Graham Clark hits Billy Budds car and starts spinning like a whirling
dervish taking out all within a 20 yard radius...
Oops, Jeffrey Horowitz just got cremated... well something's
overheating... I smell burning
Logic overflow error... does not compute...  Crash!!

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down...

If you are going to correct someone perhaps you should use proper grammar.
Also it is "spelled", not spelt.

WRONG!
The correct form of the past-tense of the word "spell" is "spelt".
Just checked 3 dictionaries. It's the way I've always spelt it too!

Just another American misconception/incorrect adaptation of the English
language...

Just for reference, the word "practice" is a noun; "practise" is the verb..
"The GPL practice-session will commence in 2 minutes." (noun)
"My lap times in GPL are horrible - I think I need to practise." (verb)

Past tense of the word can be either of "spelled" or "spelt".  Same
with the word spill.
