Help my engine backfires in the carb!

by The ma » Tue, 01 Oct 1996 04:00:00

My engine of my Opel ('(78) started backfiring in the carb.
I checked ignition timing, valve timing, cleaned the carb. But nothing
seems to work. At idle the engine sounds good, but at higher revs the
backfiring starts.

Who has an idea?

It sounds like u have a worn cam lobe. Pontiacs have
a really bad problem with this. Its probably an exhaust lobe. Pull a valve
cover and look at the rocker arms while its running and u should be able to
see one not moving up and down as much.

Cut down the detail to increase the frame rate and all of your backfiring
problems should disappear. I hope that this problem will be removed if a
patch is ever released.

Check for lean fuel mixture (clogged jets) and vacuum/mechanical advance
operation.

No way, man.  You've got one (or more) flat lobes on your
camshaft.  Get a new cam and lifter set and your problem will disappear.
Don't forget to break in the cam as per the instructions or else your
new cam will flatten, too.
