PC100/133 question...

by Jim Teste » Thu, 07 Feb 2002 12:34:06

I just built a system utilizing the ASUS AV7133C board and the AMD 1.3 gig
Thunderbird CPU.  Also installed 256megs of PC133 SDRAM memory.

Everything works just fine, but I noticed in my BIOS settings that the CPU
Frequency and the DRAM Frequency are both set at 100 Mhz.  Shouldn't those
both be 133 Mhz?

If so, how do I make the change?  I can change the Operating Frequency
Setting from "Standard" to "User Define", and change the settings manually,
but I don't want to mess something up.

Thanks...

Jim

DRAM frequency should be set to 133.  As for the CPU frequency, well I think
it should be set on 133 for a 1.3GHz CPU but I'm not sure.  You can't do any
harm by changing it and seeing if that works.

Is the cpu a 1.33c? Take note of the C. C means it is meant for a
133mhz FSB. The 1.33 came in both 100mhz and 133mhz versions.
If it is C, then yes, those bios settings is what controls the FSB
frequency. My motherboard uses a dip switch on the mb to change that
option, it varies from various manufacturers. But I believe Asus uses
the softmenu system (controlled through the bios). Another thing to
take note of is the AGP divider. When runnung on a 100mhz FSB it
should be set to 2/3 (66mhz), when using a 133MHZ fsb it should be set
to 1/2 (again, 66mhz).

Ok...thanks.  The CPU is the "C" I guess because it's rated at 133.

In the BIOS, I changed the CPU and DRAM Frequencies to 133 Mhz.  I noticed a
"Voltage" option.  It was set to "10" for 100 Mhz..  Does that stay the same
for 133?

Also...where do I find the AGP Divider setting in my BIOS?  I've looked
everywhere.

Thanks again...

Jim

I meant "Clock Multiplier"...not "Voltage".
