SCGT - Track realism

Hello,

I finally used some time to get my carrer mode going, and have finally reached
the GT2 class. And now the tracks are getting interesting.

Mosport : This is very different that the track in GPL. Has it been rebuilt,
or it is just bad programming ?

Road Atlanta : Great track, CART should race there no doubt. But the last two
turns are hell. I have a real struggle to fint the right speed and the right
turn in and apex over that downhill drop. I either end up on the grass after
a nice leap over the curb, or sideways down the track and into the wall. How
do you do that ?

Chatham : This is a fantasy track, isn't it. But driving it in the rain was
really difficult. Lots of AI cars crashing, and I drove right into one after
coming up the hill to the S/F-line.

What a great game!!

On 26 Jul 1999 11:06:48 +0200,

I have raced a lot there in real-life, many moons ago. The apex is blind
at the bridge turn so you have to aim for a spot you can't see, past the
dropoff. The bridge turn is fairly well modeled, except that in real life,
the drop is much more steep.. :) Also, you can drift far to the left out of
the turn into the pit road, and setup your entry into the bottom (last)
turn..

The last turn at the bottom, is very difficult, because you want to
maintain speed for the upcoming short front straight. All I can
recommend there is to late apex it a -little- bit, since as you found
it can be kinda narrow on the exit.. :) It too, is modeled very well.
Other parts of the track are poorly modeled, in my opinion. The
esses and the turn at the bottom, and the carousel double apex turn
is -way- to wide on entry, for example.

They got the red clay accurate though... :)

It is an incredible racetrack, even with the wimpy chicane on the
backstretch which was not there until recently. It used to be
about a mile long, flat out to the bridge...

I would say that GPL models Mosport much more accurately than SCGT does. The
layout at Mosport hasn't changed in all these years, they just done things
to make it a little safer when you have an off.

I had the same question a while back.  From the responses I got, it seems
that the hills were leveled out due to safety concerns.

The general layout is pretty close after watching the SCCA Trans Am Racing there.
Turn 5, Moss, and the last 2 turns are great indeed :-D  The only problems I
believe are smoothing the elevation changes on the back stretch after turn 5, but
its still a great track even in reverse mode :-D

Yes it is fantasy.  Sardian Park is fantasy too, but it's one heck of a fun track
with GT3-GTQ classes forward or reverse!

As for the AI crashing, do you have the Advanced Options set to Pure Sim mode?
This is probably the cause, but hey it's raining and is slick.  Hehe.

I'll second that, it sure is fun.

>Hi Olav,

>Road Atlanta is one of my all time favourite tracks.  It's a beauty.

Really?!?  I bow to your driving genius...
Wait - you said fully modded?  I'll have to do some parts buying...
