CD troubles

Just got my copy of Rally Championship today, but my cdrom drive won't read
it. I *think* it's a copy-protection on the CD, because it works on someone
else's machine.

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know exactly what is causing it?

Cheers!

Hi!

Do you have a cd-writer installed? Then try to install & play the game
from the writer.

First, install it from the FIRST CD-ROM drive if you have more than one.
Next, make sure you try to RUN it from the same CD that installed it from.
Next, if it's a CD-R (SHAME, SHAME!!) your drive may not be able too
read it if the media is too dark.
Next, if your CD-ROM drive is old, you may need to clean it.  If it's a
tray load style, buy a CD cleaning kit from a music store or someplace like
that.
It's not possible to protect a CD from being read more than once since
it can't be written to.

I have exactly the same problem. I have just one CD-ROM player installed
(no writer) and it often doesn't even get past the BIOS when booting if
I left the CD inside.

I must say, Magnetic fields have created the most hazardous release in
history (MS excluded). That is hardware and software.

>Whats with the "shame shame"?

If he was using a CD-R, then apparently he doesn't have a legal copy of
the game. Instead of getting into the whole (off-topic) "pirate" debate, I
just said "shame, shame."

Had something very similar on GPL (wouldn't read the root directory
properly) and the official response, several weeks down the line,
was indeed that it was due to the copy protection and that I
should take the game back for a refund.

Instead, to get round the copy protection, I copied the game
(courtesy of gamecopyworld) and the copy installed fine.

There's irony for you!
