Wow!  I was actually at the Rafaela race in '71.  Quel disastre!  The local
racing "expert" (to say Rafaela is in the boonies is incorrect; it is in the
boonies' boonies) once attended the 500, sat in the grandstand on the
mainstraight, and returned with a distorted impression of the Brickyard's
layout.  As the designer of the Rafaela track, he assured USAC that it was a
"replica" of Indy.  Everybody geared accordingly, but when we arrived, the
teams discovered it was shaped more like a hotdog, with two impossibly long
straights, two tight hairpins, and no "short chutes" at all.  As I remember
it, Gentleman Johnny Rutherford won the race, but my lasting impressions of
the place were: monstrous***roaches the size of a science experiment gone
horribly wrong, beautiful women, the best steak this side of Moishe's in
Montreal, and millions of perfectly preserved classic cars from the 40s and
50s used as everyday drivers.

Another place added to my "must visit" list! I can heartily recommend
"Entrecote" in Paris for any steak fans. Outlandishly reasonable prices
(esp. considering it's bang in the centre of Paris), and excellent steaks.
Trouble is, the queue to get in, and that's all they serve! :-)

(Except wine - it is France after all!)

As a Montraler, I can only but agree with Steve's choice of a Steakhouse.
It's an institution.

If tracks keep coming out at this rate, GPL is going to be fin the
*this* siecle   ;)

(For today, Rob Hunter promised a beta of Brooklands at MadCowie's!)

I dunno, after a couple months of beating my brains against F1C, I'm
happily back to GPL as the open-wheel sim of choice.  It's no N2003,
and PTA is amazing, but I can't deal without having a good open wheel
roadie sim on my PC and GPL is still untouchable.

Steve.. you are kidding right? F1C and N2003 are fantastic but GPL
-still- gives me thrills I don't get in any other sim.. For me it's
not a question of which one has a better tire model or which one has
more realistic physics, for me it's the fun factor that counts - and
with GPL I'm simply still having the most fun at the end :)

To me, N2003 *is* an open-wheel sim...but then. I', a roof rider.

My main thrill, er, interest in driving N2003 on road courses is precisely
because it *is* so much more fun than GPL.  The Cup cars are faster (lap &
Vmax), looser (less finicky), and tolerate--nay, demand--a more lurid
driving style.

But yer right; nothing will ever replace GPL, not even the when-as-and-if
GPL2; at least not in my affections.  I grew up w. RW racing in the Glorious
Sixties...and I matured as a sim racer w. GPL in the *** Nineties.

Arcade racer!!

Nothing touches N2003, but I dunno, I still find GPL to be highly
enjoyable.  It's the second best sim ever made, and I have no problems
with 2 sims on my PC.  I'm finding it much more enjoyable now that I'm
just racing it for pleasure and concentrating on improving my times in
PTA instead.
