GPL in the UK

Hmm... well, my struggle to get to play GPL online from the UK
continues.  I spent most of last night looking at VROC 2.0 and GPL
Spy Boy 2 and I couldn't find any races which had a low enough "ping"
for me to connect to.

I have a v.90 56K USB modem - so I presume the problem is with the ISP
I'm using.  Does the ISP make much of a difference in the ping times?  I
tried demon, freeserve and UKonline and they all seemed pretty similar.

I presume that the computer is not the problem (Celeron O/C'd to
460MHz, 128Mb memory, Voodoo Banshee card).

  Any suggestions people?

I get pings between .2 and .6 using Demon or Freeserve, although Demon
seem to be having line drop problems at the moment :(

Haven't managed to join any races until today when I upgraded to Win98 -
similar spec PC to yours, more testing over the weekend
