The Ring on Speedvision alert - 200 mph Jaguar (in-car!)

I was watching a show on Speedvision last night called "200 MPH Jaguar"
about the amazing Jaguar XJ220 road car.  They had a sequence of it
being driven on the Ring, including a very long in-car camera shot.  The
shot started after the car left the stadium portion of the track (turn
four or so) and continued almost until it got to the very bottom of the
track.  There then was a jump cut to just before the Little Carousel and
that shot lasted until midway down the long straight.  It was amazing to
watch, knowing exactly what was coming next (from playing GPL).  The
main difference was the height of the surrounding vegetation - all the
trees and bushes are much taller now, so you don't see as much from the
***pit.

By the way, the car set a lap record for sports cars - something like a
7:45 lap!

The show airs again on Saturday March 11 at 3:30 pm Eastern U.S. time.

The lap record is 6m11s by Stefan Bellof in a Porsche 956

The lap record for a standard production car was 7m56s set in a Porsche GT3
by Walter R?hrl
It is now held by Robert Nearn (again!) in a Caterham R500 at something like
7m55.5s

I don't know record the jag set. Is it a new one???

If it had been a Ferrari I would have gotten a little more e***d then
watching a Jag around the Ring.

LOL did you guys notice the const crews and some guy driving a utility
tractor that the driver
had to negotiate ? LOL it was a great program
I wouldnt mind Noonan taking a stab at that 8 mile circle in southern Italy
they took the 220
to to try and break the 220 barrier

Yeah, I believe that the Jag set a new (then, like 10 years ago) production
car lap record because the J220 was to be a production "***ar", the first
to go over 200 or something like that. Like I said, I think this footage was
from like '89-'90, at least thats when I remember seeing stuff floating
around about the J220 in Popular Mechanics/Science. They showed some footage
from the 1st test of the car in Texas, then a lap at Nurburgring (spelling?,
sorry don't have GPL, dug the lap though), then some place in Southern Italy
like an 8 mile diameter circle track (?) Anyway, couldn't better 217 and
change (trying to go 220) and the in-car shots of the speedo hovering just
under 220 was really cool.
I think that the car never really materialized or if a few did, they are
billionaire's collectables at this point...
I don't really follow European racing at all, but the track looked cool, if
somewhat neglected, and the driver had to dodge a tractor or something, it
was quite interesting. I would highly recommend going to directtv's web site
and finding out when this is playing again if you have directtv/speedvision
and are at all interested in this track, or car for that matter.

Good question, Robin.  I have no idea.  Did anybody else catch what the
announcer said?

Man, you are picky ;-).  Seeing as how it was an in-car shot, who cares what
kind of car it was?  Plus, that Jaguar is one beautiful automobile.

Sorry it just that I grew up at Maranello.  Ferrari to me is like no other in
the world.
