TOCA? What the Dilly-yo?

I happened to see TOCA at Electronics Boutique today, and based on many
favorable reviews here, decided to buy it.  My question now....why?  The
"3Dfx" graphics were less-than-stunning compared to say, N2, F1RS, uh,
Ultimate Race Pro, dang near alot of racing games look better.  Even
POD-3Dfx looks better IMO.  And yes, 3Dfx was turned on in the options menu.
Gameplay?  Well, seemed like a decent arcade racing game....nothing really
grabbed me or anything, just a decent arcade racing game.  Driving model
seemed very-well done.  Only raced the first two tracks so far, does it get
any better though? Am I missing something?  Is this the great racing game
I've been hearing about?  Have 9 more days left until EB gets it back on
their shelf.

I think the favorable reviews here are due to the fact it is the only
comercially available effort so far that runs BTCC cars on good 'ol British
Tracks.  If after your other 9 days your still looking for a Touring Car
Fix...check out the Pit's N2 patch that converts N2 into a pretty good Touring
car sim.

TOCA? What the Dilly-yo?

I'll be getting my Voodoo2 12 meg board next week sometime and I'll be
trying the demo of TOCA with the new card as in comparison with the original
Monster3d. I am impressed with the driving model except, the framerate was just
not right up to***with me on my P233/32meg/Monster3d system and the graphics
where a little pixillized. If the Voodoo2 turns the TOCA demo into something
special, then I'll pick up a copy. By the way, I myself did see 4 copies of TOCA
at EB in Portland,OR too.

Take Care............

The graphics are quit good, actually.  Did you try a race in the rain.
Notice the reflections of the tail lights off the blacktop.  I think
TOCA ranks right up there with some of the best graphically.  How
about the modeled damage?

What 3Dfx graphics in N2?

F1RS has disputably the best graphics in any racing game so that is a
tough comparison.

Ultimate Race Pro makes the cars look like toys.  Sure the lighting is
nice but not very realistic.

POD looks goofy.  The cars look like blackboard erasers.

It is quite a bit less arcade then Ultimate Race Pro.  The cars
handling is much more realistic then that whole "Ridge Racer, Sega
Rally, Whiplash" set.  No options for car setups though.

Return it if you don't care for it.  Thats the beauty of shopping at
EB.

If you do have the game, upgarde with the patch, and you can switch on
bi-linear filtering. :)

And btw, Am i the only one who see's ye old Brotherhood as the positive
sillyness of 3D card facism?

TOCA? What the Dilly-yo?

Sorry, I meant the regular graphics of N2 seemed as smooth. if not smoother,
than the "3Dfx" graphics of TOCA.  TOCA really seems pixelated for a 3Dfx
game.  Not nearly as smooth and clean as other 3Dfx games out there.  I'm
not flaming the game in any way, and I still might keep it.  I was just
wondering if this is all there is to it?  It doesn't seem to be the great
game I've heard about.....at least not YET.  I am definitely giving it a
thorough try...alot more than I would normally give a game, because I want
to like it.  I'm also going to try that "bi-linear filtering" option that
someone suggested to see if that smooths it out.  It also seems to be
running a little choppy on my P200. (especially in a pack)
Thanks for any further input,
Aaron
