SuperBike Championship is GREAT! But how do I...

by Gojir » Thu, 01 Apr 1999 04:00:00

SBK is really, really great! I am using a monster PC to run it, so I don't
know how much it depends on the computer, but with the right hardware it is
really cool.

My doubt is: I want to use a MS FF Wheel to drive the bike, because of the
FF support, but I feel that the wheel is too slow - I have to turn the wheel
a lot to incline the bike just a little. Can I make the wheel faster,
somehow?

The game options should allow it, but they don't...

Many of the fast lap timers in SBK have said that it is better to use
a smaller & cheaper joystick. I have a wheel and the Combat F-16
joystick. Neither worked well. The X-Y'axis radius is too long.
I got a $20 TM Top Gun joystick & cut my times by seconds on
all tracks.. Try it!! Good luck ^Fretts

SuperBike Championship is GREAT! But how do I...

I'm using a flight stick with excellent results, have to be able through
the bike from side to side quickly and your right the wheels are too slow.
I'm also using my TNT to run the game and the graphics are measurably
better than the Voodoo 2. Colours are much richer and realistic with it.

Change the rake to a lower angle, say 23 degrees. Bike will turn quicker but
highsides can be a problem. Also increase the stiffness of the back suspension,
This allows the front end to dive more, effectively changing the rake. A little
birdie told me that the first patch will include a joystick sensitivity option
like on the very first demo I saw of the game.

I use a LWFF and have no problems.  I notice a bit of "slowness" in quick
change switchbacks, but always start turning early.  Actually I find that a
very important key to going fast.  But also adjusting the rake or stiffing
the back end up will help somewhat...although I've found the default setups
can be very quick.

Anyone know if there are people playing SBK online? :)

I have the Logitech formula FF wheel and it works great. The feedback
effects are the best I have felt in a FF game. I ride motorcycles and the
feelings are amazingly real. When the front wheel comes off the ground you
get a little head shake and a little thump when it comes back down, ect.
As far as the slow reactions it seemed like it at first until I played with
the setups to get the bike to turn faster. I also keep the sensitivity in
the wingman software cranked up. Im not sure about the MS wheel though. I do
know you cant whip the bike around when youre going very slow in tight turns
but thats how bikes are. The bikes in the game themselves seem to be a
little different also. I hope this helps, this game is way too good not to
play.

Chris, I have tried a few times but lag was brutal. We tried
5 people on a lan and it still chopped had to turn detail way
down and extra bikes off to get frame rates smooth on machines
other than host. All systems were P2 450's, so I believe EA or
Milestone need to clean up their networking code. Next time we
will try a 100 m/byte hub to see if it helps.

Blip the throttle, while torquing on the handlebars... you CAN whip a
real bike around, just be careful not to whip yourself off.

Gives you a chance to inspect the condition of your front tire as your fly over
it....
