about it. I qualified on pole! This was really a bad race. I made some silly
mistakes which really ...I'm still reeling about.
I was absolutly elated to carry my testong form into qualifying. I felt
supreme, as I was 2 tenths faster than the next guy, Shane Kelly who won the
last round. Championship leader, Bradley Young was in 3rd. It was nice to have
all the top guys up there.
So, my first start from pole this season. I was nervous, but I didn't think it
possible to make a bad start.. all my previous starts had been fine, never
gained or lost positions by the first corner before. Why worry? Heh. When it
came to that five-second board and I glanced at the red lights I realised that
I couldn't ditinguish between the lights being on or off! Great! I don't know
if it was the sun, or my position on the track, from the position of the lights
but I realised I had no idea when they were going to change! So the inevitable
happened, I had to react to the guy next to me, who made a blinder! He rocketed
away, and the 3rd placed guy was past too! :-((((((((((((((((
So I was third at the first turn. Sh*t. I battled into 2nd, all wheels locked
at T2 in a passing manouvre that was, at best, hairy. :) I held 2nd for a few
laps, catching the leader when again braking into T2 I screwed up my gear
change and found myself scrabbling for 2nd. The car ran wide in those few
moments, in neutral, I was on the grass and the leaders were long gone.
:-((((((((((((( I got back and again found myself chasing. I was locking up,
running wide, sliding into and out of turns. I was behaving like a maniac when
I should have been tidy. Less Jean Alesi and more Damon Hill, I think is the
answer.
I need to stop making these mistakes. It's proably cost me my chance of winning
the championship, with two races to go. With the money running out, I may miss
these last two races and concentrate on the chance to go racing at Le Mans in
the La Filiere academy. The Jim Russell school is holding 3 days of testing to
find the best candidate to goto Le Mans and go for a place. Or of course I
could find a sponsor... :)
***. I'll let you know the updated championship positions when I get
them/can be bothered to work them out myself ;)
