"Slicks and Slides" found...

Someone mentioned the game "Slicks and Slides" as a possible solution to
boredom with Indycar.  I was intrigued since it's apparently supposed to be
similar to that classic arcade game "Chamionship Sprint".  ANyway, I just took
a few minutes to search for it and found it at cs.uwp.edu.  I'm downloading it
as we speak here (thank God for X-Windows), so I'm really not sure if it's
even worth downloading yet.  It's only a third of a meg though....

it's in pub/msdos/games/new/temp, file name is slick127.zip .

I downloaded it the other day, and I haven't stopped playing it since!
It's *excellent*; I can't recommend it enough. Pretty simple,
delightfully unrealistic - this is a definite d/load.

And no, I don't know the guy who wrote it!  ;-)

---I liked it too!  I said it was a third of a meg but it's actually around
a quarter of a meg - which for me took about 3 minutes to download....
*definitely* worth taking the time to ftp and download it.  I couldn't get
the joystick support to work for it, though - could anyone else?  At first
I thought the control of the car sucked, but after a few minutes you start
getting the hang of it.  Overall, not *quite* as impressive as Indycar :-),
but still a fun little game....

Hint: (1) For future reference, use the command "dir * list", which will output
the directory listings to a local file "list".  Then do a grep on that file
for the file you're looking for. (2) if you read the opening message at
cs.uwp.edu you see that the games directory is mirrored - try that other
location. (3) but for now, I'll save you the trouble - it's in
pub/msdos/games/new/temp, file name is slick127.zip, if I remember correctly.

I don't have a joystick, I'm afraid. Just meant to say, I love the little
skidmarks the cars leave behind.

Another cool thing to do with this game is an interesting one. I live on
a landing of four people in halls of residence; you can set all cars to
computer control and place bets on the outcomes of the races.

Only they tend to think it's rigged... makes for a fun game though.

You really should try it with some of your friends. The game supports
multiplayer action up to 4 people (if your keyboard can handle it).
The game really shines in multiplayer action!!

What are the Directories you go to find it?  I finally got in and
couldn't find after 30 minutes.

Thanks,

I played it with one friend, and it just descended into laughter. My
keyboard can only handle 3 keys being down at once, so when one of us
tried to turn and accelerate, the other one went straight on. You had to
time it carefully, so that he was at the very end of a nice long straight...

You could actually hold down particular selections of keys to make his
car go round and round in circles.
