IVL adds three new manufacturers

by David Marti » Tue, 19 Mar 1996 04:00:00

IVL (Internet Victory Lane) has announced that it will allow the Buick Riviera, the Dodge
Avenger, and the Oldsmobile Cutlass to compete with the Chevy Monte Carlo, the Ford
Thunderbird, and the Pontiac Grand Prix.  Opening up the manufacturers race will deviate from
real NASCAR rules a bit but it should not take away from the sport and it will allow drivers
to drive what they are proud of on Sunday.

Next race is Darlington and there should be a Buick in the field driven by Alan Claffie of
Parsimonious Racing in the #93 Tic Tac Breath Mints Buick Riviera.

Watch for the action at http://www.racesimcentral.net/~ivl

Hi David,

Actually, the NASCAR rules (I believe) are open to about six
manufacturers including Oldsmobile, but only Ford, Chevrolet and
Pontiac choose to compete.   Oldsmobile pulled out during the early
90's due to business pressures during the recession.

I remember this being stated during the TNN telecast of the Phoenix
race in 1995.   Phil Otto has the video of the race if we need to get
the exact quote.  :-)

Cheers,

Craig.

Thanks,

I wasn't aware that those manufacturers were approved, but I don't know everything and since
I've only been following NASCAR regularly for a few years I miss alot.  I just got cable, I
won't miss much else.
