I just saw this race; a 15 minute program. It was really good to watch.
It was rain delayed so they held the first 10 laps under caution. Even
when they did get going on lap 11 it was still pretty damp. The race
didn't finish until sunset! I recognised a few names like Ned Jarrett
(finished 3rd) Johnny Rutherford, Dan Gurney and AJ Foyt.

Some bloke called 'Tiny' won - the biggest, fattest racing driver I've
ever seen! :)

The box said "Windows 95 or better", so I installed LINUX!

As Mansell aptly demonstrated in 1995.

I saw that too! :-) Made me think of ordering NASCAR Legends (although
that's based in 1970?)

The winner was Tiny Lund btw :-)

Interesting thing about that race and Lund.......Cotton Owens was driving for
the Wood Bros. at the time and had a serious, fiery crash during practice.
Lund, who was a well liked, journeyman driver, pulled owens from the wreck,
likely saving his life. Owens was too injured to drive, so as a reward, Lund
drove his car. It was by far the most impressive of his five career victories.

Marvin Panch was th driver who was injured at Daytona. He returned & won the
1966 C***te World 600, driving #42 or the Petty clan. after he left the Wood
Brothers. I say that is a big race

You're right, it was Panch. (I'm operating from memory here.....I saw the race)
When I said that the '63 Daytona 500 was his greatest victory, I meant Lund.
Marvin Panch won like 15 or 20 races, and the 600 was certainly a big one.

Holy Smokes! You just reminded me that I've met Tiny Lund. A friend of my
dad, deeply rooted in west coast racing, brought us to meet him at San
Francisco Speedway. We we're just*** out all day. I couldn't have been
more than 4 or 5 and Tiny was HUGE! That's about all I remember. But it
brings back pictures of another time in my head. Trippy, huh?
