F1RS won't launch "Out of memory"

by Chuck & Carrie Rossell » Sat, 29 Aug 1998 04:00:00

Has anybody had this problem?  I purchased F1RS, installed it, and
attempted to run it. The game won't launch because of an "Out of memory"
error.

The FAQ at various websites says this is probably because I lack the
right vido card or am missing or have certain bad .dlls (wsock32.dll,
glide.dll, glide2x.dll, sst1init.dll).  I have checked the .dlls out and
found that I have them all and that wsock32.dll has the right size and
is probably okay.

I am running a Matrox Millennium II graphics card which I thought was
3D, claims is 3D, and is more advanced than the Matrox Mystique 220
which Ubisoft claims they are able to run FIRS on.  I have Direct6
drivers and the Direct3D driver is installed according to the DirectX
status.

Is there something I missed in the installation?  Is the Millennium II
really not a 3D card?  If it is a 3D card, then can I expect similar
problems with other 3D programs that I try to run on my Matrox card?

Then help me too...
I have a Diamond Stealth 64 MPEG accelerator 4Mb VRAM, and recently I
bought Pure3D LX. I connected the Pure3D LX card to my Diamond card, then
tried to play F1RS, it gave me a "expected VXD 1.3, got 1.2" error...wat's
that?

Make sure you get the latest drivers for the card.
