Win Me system...added XP for a dual boot pc.

Tried to start Win Me tonight....wouldnt get to desktop,not alot on it so
decided to reinstall.

Went fine....until reboot when to my shock no dual boot choice...just
straight to Win Me desktop.!!

So on my 3rd partition installed Win XP so as not to risk all my stuff on
the 2nd partition,the original Win XP installation.

Went great...rebooted at end.

SAME...!! Now it is a bare Win XP pc,no dual boot with Win Me as i
expected...!!

So atm i have 3 partitions...C drive is new XP,D drive is Old Xp,E drive is
Win Me.

How do i get dual boot back...?

Please any information would help..

You have to reformat, install WinME (C), then install XP on other partition
(D).

When you installed WinME again, it over wrote the MBR (master boot
record).  You have to reset it.  If I remember correctly, boot the
WinXP CD goto the Recovery Console. From there to repair the XP
Bootloader run either fixboot or fixMBR.

Here some other thing you can try.  I'd go with this one first:

As far as I am aware, it is the file boot.ini, in the root directory,
that allows you to dual boot, and I guess yours has become corrupted. I
used to have a win98 XP dual boot and this file got altered with no dual
boot as a consequence until I edited it back to the way it was supposed
to be.

Here is a winME/XP dual boot, boot.ini that I found on google groups.
Try putting it in your XP root directory.

[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=C:\
[operating systems]
C:\="Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect
