A bit late... ICR 2.0 is well underway, and it is based on
the NASCAR engine. So be assured, that you'll get textured
billboards, and most likely no kerbs.

The thing will ship before christmas, and when some of us submitted
a long ICR 2.0 wishlist a few weeks ago we were told that it was too
late for some of the suggestions to make it in.

and to do a F1 game - well, go and talk to them. My guess is that it
is legally too complicated to accomplish (FIA will want it's share,
just like Tony George gets his cut off any IMS expansion pack
right now). And there is a direct competitor coming out in a few
week made by microprose - so why risk anything?

Locking up tires would be neat, though. Never thought of it in our
wishlist - probably too touchy to implement with all the
exisiting input devices anyway.

Hi Jed
Everyone who enjoys racing either real or simulated is welcome. Sorry
to here about your accident. It must be tough not being able to race again.

:>I myself have Microprose F1/WC, Indycar and Nascar and think there
:>brilliant. I think Indycar could be a bit better an I hope v2 will
:>fill a few holes. I am currently trying to persuade Papyrus to forget
:>about wasting processor time with textured scenery and concentrate on
:>adding more realism to the games. I mean, try sitting in a 4 wheeled
:>coffin doing 200mph+. Do you think I care whats on the billboards?!

I agree with you about the texture maping. I always turn them off
because I want the fastest reaction speed possible.

:>Firstly I think we need kerbing. Anyone who has driven a car flat out
:>over a kerb will tell you its a pretty wild thing. It wouldnt take much
:>to program it in would it and all you would have to do is tilt the view
:>point as you went over.

Kerbs would be a great addition. They would make cutting corners at
chicanes like at Indycar Australia a lot trickier.

:>Secondly, I know this osunds morbid but I'd like to see some effort put
:>into accidents/crashes.
:>Nascar was great with all that bodywork but I'd especially like to see
:>the ability to roll a car if you have a really bad moment.
:>
:>Also with Single seaters why not have the throwing about of the cars
:>when you bang wheels or ride over one? Even the old wishbones bending
:>up would be nice.

Even if they added this you would never see it happen because the
computer cars do not have collisions with each other. They just pass right
through the other car. Look at an overhead replay of some close racing by
computer cars to see what I mean.

:>Lastly, I'd like to see the ability to "lock-up" you tyres when really
:>going for a balls-out lap.

I "lock-up" my tires in F1GP and Indycar too often. I use an analogue
joystick and accelerate by pushing it forward and brake by pulling back.
Also I set the steering and braking help OFF. It's very easy to make a
bad start in F1GP by over or under reving the engine before dropping the
clutch. I use a Thrustmaster joystick and throttle combination. All the
buttons can be used for shifting, setting anti-roll bars, brake bias,
etc. I use the throttle to set the turbo-boost setting. Never have to
look for keys on the keyboard!

Nice chatting with you.

I agree 100%.  Frame rate is EVERYTHING - I don't want to waste CPU
cycles on billboards and other eye candy.

Which is why your other comment confuses me:

As far as I'm concerned, I'd accept the computer saying "YOU CRASHED"
if it meant they could spend the time it would take perfecting the
car-rolls-over code making the game more realistic.  Why bother showing
the thing roll over?  At that point you won't be continuing the race
anyway.

I don't know the person from Papyrus that reads this conference, but if
it's not too late I hope that in ICR2.0 they introduce a semi-automatic
gearbox.

The reason I want a semi-automatic gearbox is that I cannot afford the
Thrustmaster T1 and therefore don't have the speed on the road courses.
There are times on road courses (under automatic gearbox) where you are
in too high a gear coming off the turns and therefore don't get enough
tourque.  I would like to pull back on the joystick and drop down a gear
(or two) and get lots of speed off the turns.

Does this mean a new version of Microprose Grand Prix?  Anyone know any
more?

I've been using CH FlightStick quite succesfully for two or so years
with IndyCar Racing.  I've assigned accelerator-brakes in Y-axis, and
steering in X-axis, buttons are for gear shifting, and I think this
simulates semiautomatic gearbox quite closely.

Hi Jason,

World Circuit 2 is now in development and should be available this Fall.
There is a web page on the game under the Spectrum HoloByte Division page
at:

http://www.microprose.com/shinfo.html

I have just received 14 screen shots from the game which I will be posting
on the webpage and as a self-running demo next week.

Hopes this helps.

Best,
-Quentin/MicroProse/Spectrum HoloByte
