Registration Begins Today for World's Largest Computer Game Tournament;
Competition Scheduled for Nearly 300 U.S. Locations - From Miami to Anchorage
SAN DIEGO, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Registration begins today for the world's
largest computer game tournament -- the Gateway Challenge 2001 -- with family
members of all ages invited to compete for prizes in five different age groups.
In partnership with Intel and ATI Technologies Inc., Gateway is hosting the
coast-to-coast tournament in all of its 296 Gateway Country stores Nov. 17 -
25. Last year, more than 9,000 participants competed in the first annual
Gateway Challenge -- record participation for a computer game tournament.
"Computer games are a great family activity, and our Gateway Country stores are
a place in the community where people can come to learn about not only ***
but digital music, photography, video, personal finance and a lot more -- all
at their own pace," said Bart Brown, senior vice president of marketing for
Gateway.
To encourage participation by all family members, prizes will be awarded in
five categories: ages 6-9, 10-13, 14-18, 19-30 and ages 31 and up. In each
age group, prizes ranging in value from $50 to $3,000 will be presented.
Contestants of all ages are invited to play during the week of Nov. 17 - 25.
Participants will compete on Sierra's NASCAR(R) Racing 4 game -- putting
players in the driver's seat of a 750-horsepower NASCAR(R) stock car that
responds to every move at heart-pounding speeds. The graphics-intensive game
will be played on Intel(R) Pentium 4 processor enhanced Gateway systems with
ATI Radeon(TM) 8500 graphics cards.
Competitors can visit any Gateway Country store from November 9 - 16 to
practice on the systems that will be used in the competition. Starting on
November 17, contestants will be allowed to compete once each day during the
competition, with only their best time counting toward the final ranking in
each age group.
Interested families should visit www.gateway.com for official rules and
registration information. Registration begins today and will be open at all
Gateway Country stores before and during the week of the tournament --
contestants can also register online at www.gateway.com . Participants ages 13
and under must bring a parent to their nearest Gateway Country store to
register in person. To find the store nearest you, visit
