i've got a p4/1.7ghz/512mb/w98se/gf3.  once the game is running, it is
great.  however, it is amazingly slow in places.  particularly, it
takes forever (like 3+ minutes) for it to switch from the screen that
shows up *after* you select a track.  it's the screen that pops up
with the spinning circle animation around the f1cs2000 logo in the
top-left.  (i dunno what the program is doing during this time, but
i'm guessing it's doing something like building the 3d model of the
track.)  is 3+ minutes normal?  i experience the same delay when
loading replays.  again, it seems like it's when the program could be
building the model of the track.  i'd appreciate any suggestions.

I am running F1CS2K on a 1 ghz Celeron and it doesn't take that long to
come up.  Do you have DMA enabled on your hard drive?  Do you have
anything else running in the background?  That's about all I can think
of that would cause that.

yah, i've got my anti-virus stuff, the lwff profiler.  that's about
it.  maybe i should turn the anti-virus off since it's probably
checking everything that is pulled off the disk.  hmmm.

oh my gosh!!  i just turned my antivirus checker off and the delay was
like 10-15 seconds.  much better!!!  thanks for pointing me in the
right direction.

Thanks for posting the solution you found.  I have never bothered to
turn my antivirus checker off during ***, now I guess I will try it.
