(Brabham that is) I was wondering why I can't do consistent doughnuts in
GPL. I've got all the helps off.  Peg the throttle, crank the wheel, get
about half a smoky doughnut and then it stops, or it wavers.  Never a
decent one.  I can do nice figure 8s though.  Somehow it's a lot like the
"canned" spin-turns in GP2 or ICR2.  I've tried modulating the throttle to
no avail.  Is it the differential?  Zanardi could do multiple O's in a
champ car, my delinquent neighbour can lay them down in his muscle car, so
why can't I with the most sophisticated sim engine out there?

And what's with the collision physics?  It's interesting to sit up against
a guardrail for a few seconds, then suddenly be sent flying across half
the world.

I'm sure this has been brought up before - I'm new to GPL.

Either you lack stunt driving ability or you have the car setup
wrong.  Try balancing the car and then setting the ramp angles
to 60/60 or 45/45.  Now do you understand why we consider
it the most sophisticated sim engine out there?

Not to mention Zanardi can completely turn on the brake bias to the front
brakes of the CART car will sit and spin. :)

Yup . I even saw a replay of a driver getting the honda up on 2 wheels and
driving it  along like a stunt car. From a slow speed he quickly turned the
wheel which flicked the car up onto the 2 wheels.
Buy the way Hitman I would really like to know what setup you used to do
that.

I'm not entirely sure about this.  I seem to recall overhearing
several car to team communications where the driver explains
how he has set the bias all the way front and the rears are
still locking.

As for Zanardi, Mansell had him outclassed in the donuts
department.  I recall a CART test he did while at Newman
Haas where he spent the better part of a minute ridding
the track of mosquitos. :-)

Do note that in GPL you can indeed set the car to either front
or rear brakes only.  Always fun to see how much heat one
can get into the tires, I think my personal best is 401 degrees
front, 399 rear.

I stand corrected!  (and my intuition about the differential was perhaps
correct).  Back to the doughnuts.

I believe the collision detection will be better in 1.2
