TOCA2 : Greatest Demo Ever?

Is TOCA2 the greatest demo ever?  This game is so great.  It has everything.
Top Notch 1999 quality Graphics, Very Real Physics, Excellent Replays, and a
great sense of speed.  Codemasters outdid themsleves this time.  I hope
everyone goes out and downloads it.  Does anyone know when the US release is
planned?  I know the UK release is in March.

Well, i must admit, I never had as much fun with any other
demo.............I also have never played TOCA (1)
BUT.......Certain things were not to my "awesome" rankings scale.
Graphics were nice, bordering great, but the mirrors were just horrible.
Damage modeling was a little weird and unrealistic to me. Physics were the
closest to any racing from "Non-papy" (Yes I am a put papy on a thrown guy)
game, but still a WAY to go to be as real as it gets........and what the
hell is up with the first corner????? Do they HAVE to wreck EVERYTIME?
These are all minor in my opinion, and 2 thumbs up from me.....It is a TOTAL
BLAST and I double recommend this to ANYONE.....There may not be the
satisfaction you feel when you FINALLY nail a corner correctly in
GPL.....BUT, there arent many "Throw your wheel through the moniter cause
this game is so freakin diffucult to get down......." feelings I went
through with GPL.
In fact, just talking about it makes me wanna go turn some laps.

I must admit the damage graphics are not there yet.  I have always played
with the outside view, so I haven't seen the mirrors.  Actually, I watched a
couple races on Speedvision of the British Touring Cup circuit and they
wreck and bump alot.  The first turn almost always got a couple cars on each
race.  Its like they had no fear!  I was quite surprised, but when you try
to fit 20 cars through a S curve something is going to give.  But, Id rather
see them wreck and bump (without me being the cause) rather than them stay
single file and foot away from each other throughout the turns.  Once the
pack spreads you really don't see that many IA wrecks.  With replays I've
seen the IA***up like hopping rumble strips into the grass, and taking
turns too fast and ending up with one side in the grass.  This is alot
better than having the cars just go slower than 100%.  I can't wait to see
the final product.

Well, if you get a chance, Duke Video distributes almost all the latest BTCC
(British Touring Car Championship) Races on video tape. And if you watch
these, you will notice 2 things:

1) at almost every track, turn 1 is a killer on the first lap

2) BTCC drivers make NASCAR drivers look like Boy Scouts  <G>

I have to admit, when I first bought TOCA(1) and played it, I thought yuck,
this is like a consul arcade game! After years of racing and being involved
with SCCA, I am used to not bumping into other cars, well, unless you want
to get penalized or banned. And playing TOCA(1) was completely opposite of
what I was used to. Then one day I was able to buy one of those Duke videos
on the BTCC, and WOW! They really DO drive like that over there! So then I
started to play the game more, and really got into it. And now I look at our
racing (SCCA, NASCAR, etc) and think how boring <G>. As much of a race fan I
am, I got so used to BTCC racing, that when the GI Joe Grand Prix was on FOX
Sports West, it looked like nobody was even there, racing or watching. It
seemed like there was nobody hardly on the track, only a few cars in each
class, and they were so spread out that there was hardly any action at all.
But when you watch the BTCC races, almost all the cars are on the same lap,
and most are in door to door, bumper to bumper mode. So it is e***ment the
entire race!

And besides, when they all pile up at the first turn, that is about the ONLY
chance you've got to blast past 3/4ths of the field if you drive your car
just right.

But one MAJOR complaint about this game. The AI drivers STILL stick to the
track too unrealistically. No matter HOW smooth I drive, no matter how well
I take the apex on turns and do the right speed through them, the AI drivers
stick like glue. And they almost always are right behind me slamming into me
as I am entering the turns! Noting like one lousy tap from a cheating AI
driver to ruin a race almost completed.

Question:  What is the best finish and lap times you guys got? Best I got
was a 4th Place and a lap of 1:13.45. And I have really raced cars too!
Sheesh!!!!

Well to me it's pure fun, I've tried both Formula Ford and Honda Accord, and
I equally have pleasure driving it, at normal level, the AI are actually too
easy
to get by, after few hours, I was (with luck) going for 1st place before end
of lap one (got  replays), and did that many times. Never imported other replay
but it seems odd they only are at 57kb or so for each..

Thumbs up, Codemasters, i had TOCA1, and shure I'll buy TOCA2..

I got a first place but I don't think my time was any better than yours.

A few firsts and a best of 1:12.32.  To get a first, you have to be lucky, and
nastier than the other drivers :-)

First is, by comparison, very easy with the Formula Ford.  Even though I
always lose a few seconds before the first turn.  My best time with the
Formula is 1:07.72.

Eric, can you send me at least one replay? I want to see what I am doing
wrong in this game. The only way I have seen to be able to go for 1st by the
end of the first lap, is if I am EXTREMELY lucky with the pileup at Turn 1
and blaze by most of the field. Otherwise I find the AI cars still stick to
the track TOO well than they should. But lately I have also noticed - on I
think 2 turns, if I hit them a certain way, I get catapulted like an F14 on
an aircraft carrier! And if you are not ready for this, whamo - off the
course you go.

But I have tried all sorts of suspension tricks, and I've done trans
gearing, and still can't get better than 4th yet. This is quite frustrating
for someone who is used to winning (in real life). I'll take any help I can
get on this, plllllease.

Warning. In the demo you can't exchange saved replays. They just black screen
the computer.
Cheers,
Paul
