Hi!  As a regular visitor of RAS, I will now be posting my "Carset Critic"

THE CARSET CRITIC by Christopher N. Sampang

===========================================================
I am a fan of nostalgia, and I went to ICR2 Cars
(http://www.racesimcentral.net/~wdulaney) and downloaded CART1988.  I decided
to put it on my system and try it out.  Here are my findings:

1. A lot of decals on the cars had already been done on other cars way
better (Papy carpainters included).  For example, the Budweiser decal on
Rahal's car seemed typed rather than realistically made (see a 1997 CART
set and look at C. Fittipaldi's car as an example.).

2. Many of the cars were painted a lot better by other individuals.  The
#9 Sullivan Miller High Life car was definetly not as good as Wes
Dulaney's version.

3. Shading was not emphasized in some of the cars.

My overall rating of this set: 60%

Yikes!!  r.a.s. not HOT-enough for you, so you turn up the heat?

I don't think he's turning up the heat. This is offering info. If someone
has more info then jump in. You people shouldn't worry about being
politically correct. If it is constructive criticism, then there is nothing
wrong.

Nobody minds giving constructive criticism. What people might object
to is somebody coming up and saying: "I'm the car set critic. Your car
set (which was made on a voluntary basis and is distributed for free)
does not match my criteria for a good car set. Shame on you, and no
cookie!"

If this car set was for sale, I would be the first to welcome rigid
criticism. After all, you like to know what you get for your money.
But if it's for free, I can't see the "ethical nutrition value" of
this kind of criticism.

Instead of harshly criticizing (possibly mediocre) sets, why not point
out worthwhile car sets: I like the PPG97 set available at Michael
Carver's site. Beautiful artwork and constantly updated drivers2.txt
files. (http://www.teleport.com/~mcarver)

For a truly amazing experience of the possibilities of ICR2, check out
the Le Mans car set provided by The Sim Project: Race GT cars on Indy
Car tracks! The cars' paint jobs don't look too good right now (it's
an early beta version), but the shape of those cars is truly
astounding. (http://members.aol.com/simproject/index.htm)

As a consumer (as opposed to a creator) of ICR2 goodies, I think it
counterproductive to dishearten the people who put their talent and
spare time into creating *free* enhancements for me. I want to see
more and better add-ons, and I think an occasional back-rub is a more
productive way to ensure this. :)

I take it you're going to post some of your own car designs so we
can see your credentials?

All the world's a critic.  I don't see you offering anything positive
with these posts...
