ICR Mid-Ohio Question (Track Errors?)

by Mark Woy » Sat, 18 Feb 1995 23:43:48

I have only been to Mid-Ohio once, but didn't spend too much time around the
carousel area. Is the carousel lower or higher in elevation with respect
to the backstraight and the pit area? I seem to recall that the track drops
into and climbs out of the carousel, but ICR has it at a higher elevation.

Am I imagining thing? :)

Also, on a purely r.a.s note, has anyone else noticed a few errors in the layout
of some of the tracks (e.g. the absence of corner 2 at Elkhart Lake!)

Mid-Ohio is basically built on flat land with the only significant elevation
change occuring in the left hander past the end of the main straight.  This
elevation feature is carried to the last turn.  The rest of the course is
treated as flat.

Turn two at Road America is a kink of no consequence between one and three.
Turns at road courses are traditionally numbered for the flag stations that
man them.  There's a station at two.

Yes, but the kink also starts a downhill drop to turn 3, which is completely
missing in the simulation. When you sit in turn 3, you can't see the cars until
they crest turn 2, but ICR models it as a straight from 1 to 3.

Also, does anyone miss the trees in Thunder Valley at Elkhart? The whole track
from the Kink to Canada Corner should have nothing but trees on both sides, with
a mound to the right, but again ICR models it as a pretty open area. Sigh. :)

I'm thinking of going to the Michigan 500 this summer and would
appreciate any info or opinions anyone has to offer (i.e. ticket prices,
dates, best seats, or anyting else).

Thanks in advance.

Yes. The first errors I have noticed was at Long Beach. The last turn
is much sharper than the real track. Same thing for Vancouver. I believe
it is the chicane before the 'tunnel' (somewhere around Turn 4-6 or
something - still can't figure out how you guys count the turns on
racetracks here :)  )

   GREAT TAGLINE!

Dave.

As in most ovals the best valued spots are in the infield. The cost is
$20 per vehicle (1994) and you need to get there before the track opens
Friday or Saturday.

I go to the Aug. NASCAR race, but I have a friend who has season
tickets for NASCAR and INDY.
Last year he told me that the stands were half empty at the Indy
race, so I guess their should be no problem getting tickets.

As far as NASCAR tickets go, they don't even take requests for
upgrades due to the renewal rate. I've been trying for years
for an upgrade from my low 8th row seats. Best bet call about
a month before race to see if there are any returns.

Have fun.

Best advice is to get on the mailing list for 1996.  They have been
sold out for months.   Sometime in the fall of '95 you will get an
application for tickets and need to send your money in.  Send it
in for the cheapest tickets because that's all you will get.

I have been going three years and we have moved up two sections.
They give you whatever they want to give you.  You can usually
get tickets from scalpers when you get there.

good luck!

I attended the Michigan 500 last year for the first time.  Found a hotel about
25 miles away on Sat. night.  Nothing closer available.  Really enjoy the race
and layout, HOWEVER, the outbound traffic mess was unbelievable.  It took more
than 3 hours to get out of the parking lot (and there were thousands of cars
behind me!)  Try it, you'll like the race.

I try to go to a different venue each year, fitting in a race with my business
travel.  I really enjoy the Milwaukee race meet, right after Indy.
