Let's just hope it doesn't mean a big reduction in non-NASCAR events.  I'm
already disappointed that they didn't carry the entire 24 Hours of Daytona
live.

agreed.  I missed Bob Varsha on the Rolex 24 broadcast team this year as
well.

The same-day FIA World Rally coverage is a nice addition however, let's just
hope Ralph Shaheen doesn't do the narration anymore.  :(

Yeah ... I'm getting used to Shaheen though (probably the way someone gets
used to a tumor). To me, it sounds like he's simply re-voicing what the
British commentator is saying.

I would guess that they (Speed Channel) are doing that to make the program
more "applicable" for the US audience. Seems a bit misdirected to me.

I really like the rally coverage. In a lot of ways it reminds me of what
sportscar racing used to be like long ago when they used to compete in races
like the MIlle Miglia and the Targa Florio and the Carrera Pan Americana ...
well, the all tarmac rallies do anyway.

The real downside for me is that now I have to start collecting Rallycourses
in addition to the Autocourses I'm ***ed to. That and lusting after a
Subaru WRX.

LOL, heh I missed the girlfriends comments at 2:30am this year, "IS THAT
RACE STILL ON? ! !"

1907 - Daytona Beach Florida

Glenn H. Curtiss rode a V8 powered motorcycle
to a 136.30 mph record in the measured mile.

The Chicago Daily News headline reads:
"Fastest Mile On Earth, Bullets Are The Only Rivals Of Glenn Curtiss"

Aww, you don't enjoy the jet sprint boats? When done properly
it's as close as you can get to boat racing on land. They
even have rollbars on the boats because they get out of the water
so often. I had a big 8 foot C-Band TV dish and saw Speedvision
it's very first year. Then they scrambled it. :( A while later
I got DirecTV but have never seen the jet sprint boats or the
little 18 foot sailing skiffs on there since. :( Those skiffs
were fun to watch. Four man crews, dual outriggers for the crew
to hang off of and sails bigger than the boat. I saw one race
where every boat but one capsized and the one that didn't had the
spinnaker rip away, taking part of the mast with it. They'd
all put their biggest masts and sails on because the wind was
light in the morning but by start time it was gusting around
40MPH. A DNF is better than a DNS!

At any rate I didn't upgrade form the basic DirecTV until they
took Speedvision out of the $80 a month sports package and put
it in the Total Choice package. I kept e-mailing DirecTV
and Speedvision, telling them to go take a poll at any car
race and ask who _doesn't_ like football, baseball, hockey,
golf etc. There's ball sports nuts and then there's racing
nuts. It's a rare bird who likes both.

WRC is great.  new narrator not so good.  bring back previous british guy.
Terrified that SPEED will be Nascar Overload - YUK - Bubbavision -
I would rather have infomercials than Nascar 'Tech'

I like it when the Brits say Su-bah-roo. And they don't crash or wreck,
they have a "drama". :)
