Bad mobo mojo - I'm not worthy!

Apologies all around! The difficulties I was experiencing with my
brand new A7NX8 DeLuxe (Asus' COP protection feature would shut down the
board within 5 sec. of the time it was started) were entirely of my own
making.

I mistakenly thought I had installed the HSF (heat sink/fan)
correctly, but nooooooo.  Actually, the first time I installed it was
right...but it was on a bad CPU. When I installed the 2nd CPU, I
inadvertently rotated the base of the heat sink 180 deg., so that it was
resting on the step-up shown on the left side of this picture:

Once I got it turned the right way 'round, the board fired right up.

      Doh!

      I'm so ashamed....

Anyway, thanks one & all fer all yer help.  And for persisting w. what
ultimately emerged as the proper solution to my "problem."

Hehe, guess it's a good thing you didn't find a way to bypass the COP
then ? :D

Oh well, been there and done that myself, of course, that was before AMD
MoBo's had any sort of overheating protection and I fried the CPU, I
hadn't mounted the HS 180 degrees around, just hadn't got it seated
properly, but the end result is the same

Beers and cheers

You are NOT the first person to do that :)

You're actually pretty lucky.  I've never experienced it, but apparantly AMD
Athlons will flame-out in microseconds if powered up without the heat-sink
firmly in place.  In the early days Athlon MB's did not have on-board heat
detectors/management under the CPU.  Newer one's do and I suspect can stop
this "Frying-Athlon" phenomena in it's tracks :)
