Question Regarding F12002 and "stuttering in the rain"

by Mr Muddy Pant » Mon, 30 Dec 2002 08:43:06

Anyone have a fix for this ? Whenever it rains I get this stuttering effect;
mostly when cornering.
I have tried 30.82 drivers and the 41.09 drivers, with no difference. Tried
various settings in the game and the drivers; disable fast writes, different
AGP speeds, vsynch, antialising, antistropic filtering and so on.

The only thing that almost gets rid of it is changing the "render frames
ahead" from 3 to 0 in the D3D settings. This almost completely gets rid of
it, and would be a fix, if it did not crash DirectDraw when set to 0. I
can't run Superbike2001 or mercedes benz truck racing with it set to 0.

System is a Soyo SY-KT400 Dragon UltraPee, XP2400, 512MB RAM, GF4 Ti4200
128MB
My framerates in F12002 are 40 to 50. Everything is okay when the weather is
sunny or overcast. Only rain brings about, "stuttering in the rain"

Thanks, Greg

Question Regarding F12002 and "stuttering in the rain"

by Dave Henri » Mon, 30 Dec 2002 11:53:08

I think it's just more of the low framerate hiccups that have been with
the ISI titles for a long time.  You may think 40 to 50 is a good framerate.
But trust me, it isn't.  If you get the fps up around 80+ then the jitters
go away.  The reason, I think, that you see the stutters in the rain is the
added strain on the graphic system that happens when the rain is drawn.  So
as your fps drops the stutters begin.
I wonder if this is tied to the High frequency physics.  If the
graphics lag behind, does the program 'jump' ahead to resync the graphics
with the physics?  ??   ???

Question Regarding F12002 and "stuttering in the rain"

by Mr Muddy Pant » Mon, 30 Dec 2002 12:18:08

Well, I don't have the "super-high" physics enabled in my PLR file. It is
set to "1", which is normal. Is that what youe are refrencing ?
Any tricks on getting 80FPS out of F12002 ? I also seem to get the
"stuttering" on a test-day with no other cars on track, if I remember
correctly. I will have to try it tomorrow. Also will try a lower resolution,
currently I run at 1280x960 32bit color.
Other odd thing is the "frames rendered ahead" setting. I get the same
frame-rates whether it is at 3 or 0, but when it is at zero, the
"stuttering" almost completely disappears.

Thanks

Question Regarding F12002 and "stuttering in the rain"

by Mr Muddy Pant » Mon, 30 Dec 2002 14:32:16

Tried it at 1024x768. Same results, "stuttering in the rain". Does not seem
to be framerate dependent. Got framerates in the high 60's, still stuttered.
Very bizarre, guess I will have to try to remember to change the "frames
rendered ahead" setting in the D3D settings.
Thanks, Greg

Are you running with AntiAliasing? when I had 4X AA I got bad stutterinmg
effects at corners, turn this down to 2 all seems OK.

Question Regarding F12002 and "stuttering in the rain"

Yes, I have it at 2X antialising. Tried it with it off or on and all the
different antialising settings. No change :--((

Maybe it is the 128MB card ?

Question Regarding F12002 and "stuttering in the rain"

I'm using a 128MB GF4 and it's OK. Have you got your BIOS settings right,
have you loaded any motherboard .inf files or any special hardware drivers?

Andi.

Just the VIA 4n1's. Latest version since this is a new board. What
Detonaters are you running ? I am using the 30.82 Omega Drivers. Tried the
41.09's with the same results. Had the 40.72's on, but superbike2001 did not
like those.
Thanks

Question Regarding F12002 and "stuttering in the rain"

by Glen Pittma » Wed, 01 Jan 2003 10:39:03

I get the same effects when playing GTR2002.  frame rates in the 90's but
still see stuttering while driving in the rain.  On a clear day, everything
is cool.

I believe, but are now 41.09.  I will try again and see if I still have this
problem with the newer drivers.

Question Regarding F12002 and "stuttering in the rain"

by Kendt Eklu » Wed, 01 Jan 2003 23:39:25

I was getting a *bad* stuttering in the rain - especially with the
mods, until I went into the PLR file and set the thunder/lightning
freq to 0.  I would notice that as soon as there was a flash of
lightning, I'd get a huge amount of stuttering.  I also increased the
Video Memory in the config file (which helped with some general
stutters.
