This is hilarious.  I have just read a post on RASN from someone who is
upset about an ongoing multithread conversation between Mike Joy and JAlan
(janal).  Seems there is some discussion about who is the better, more
accurate media professional.  This is similar in length and depth as the
current RASCAR uproar on RAS.  Even includes the ancient history flames :-)
The funny thing to me is that anyone would complain about topic, subject,
content, or anything else posted in any newsgroup.  These are all free open
forums available to anyone whether subscribed or not.
I really do not understand.  I love to join in a good debate, that is why I
love Ng's.  I prefer to debate on topic and would prefer it remain without
personal attack.  Yes, I am human, I do make personal attacks but not on any
kind of regular basis.
The thing is,  Why don't people just ignore what they don't want to read?
Filters are easy to create, even easier (for me) is to scroll past, as I
like to browse so I check out most and participate or subsequently ignore
same.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Do you like yelling fire in the library too? ;)
Or do you abide by some societal conventions during the day but
prefer to support antisocial behavior to spice up your leisure hours?

Some people use clients (or even servers) that don't do header-only
transfers, and in those cases the client has to grab all of the
messages before it can apply a filter,  If you pay for your bandwidth
you're basically wasting money everytime another jankfest breaks out.

Regardless of that, I don't see what business you have telling people
whether or not they can express an opinion, especially when you're
saying people can post whatever they want to.  That doesn't make much
sense to me.

Thats their problem then. Why should the rest of us be censored
because they are clueless, or too tight to afford the extra 5 seconds
it takes to download the messages.

Jason, I think he isn' trying to patronise, he's rather wondering why
_others_ are trying to patronise.

Well, not to flame here or to create any undue hardship, but when I read
your subject header I thought that here we'd have some interesting and new
ideas on the subject.

I was mistaken.   You seem to reiterate the same basic stuff:

1.  The forums are open
2.  Why not just filter topics

So be it.  Mostly all the newsgroups typically go through a phase of
unwieldiness and then return to topic.  It's common and not at all
bothersome.

Er....  because they don't have a choice?
