NR2002 Function Keys

by bertr » Tue, 30 Jul 2002 06:49:05

Just starting to get into NR2002.  Reading through the manual, there a
lot of function key actions, such as Tire Temps, Fuel, Session Info,
Tire Change, Pit Strategy, etc.

My question is, how does everyone handle these?  I can't fathom that you
reach for a function key in the midst of the race.  I know that I've got
to keep both hands firmly on the wheel! ...And I don't think that
everyone has enough buttons on their wheel to map each function key to.

So, do most people use something like Game Commander?   (ie - voice
control)  If so, is there a downloadable command set for NR2002
somewhere?  If not, what function key commands do you use most during a
race?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I tried a game commander thing - but I found it a bit innacurate and I spent
more time thinking about what I should be saying.

I just use the F keys - you get used to it.

the F# keys are not a problem for me.  I can feel those pretty good.  It's
the guys that press T and then actually type out sentences that I don't get.
People talking to me when I am running laps or racing drives me crazy.

I have the Logitech Momo wheel wit h6 buttons so I map the main F keys to
that.  Main one I use on wheel are F1, F2, F3, F5 Space Bar to toggle items.

I also just picked up the Belkin Nostromo for additional keys for the
autochat.

Check out NRAssistant (its free).  I use it to auto switch my desktop from
32 bit to 16 bit before starting N2002.  It has a configuration to modify
the F* buttons and it looks like a way to page through them.  I haven't
tried but it looks like you could have one button on your wheel page through
all F* keys.

Sorry, can't find a link.

Game Commander is awesome!!  I never reach for the keyboard when racing,
unless I'm chatting under caution. :-)

John,

What specific commands do you have mapped through Game Commander?  Is there a
command set that's downloadable somewhere?  (Or would you bewilling to share
yours....?)    8-)

Am I understanding this?
I have a ECCI CDS5000 with 4 buttons.
The two outer buttons I use for up/down shifting.

Could I program one inner button to scroll through
FKey menus, and the other button to select the FKey
I want?
