I Have An AST dx2-66 (Local Bus) with 8 meg of Ram.  If I put all detail,
the animation is so choppy that It makes the game unplayable(IN VGA)!!!
Is There something's wrong with my computer?????

They say a Pentium 90 with lots of memory can't run with everything in
full detail.  Some things have to be shut off.

Not really. I just upgraded to a DX4-100, and I'm still choppy with
all detail on. I found that removing the crowd in the stands -- which
doen't affect the experience much for me -- does wonders.

This is only in SVGA. I run a P60 and turn off grass and track texture.
All other detail is set to on. I get very smooth graphics. I prefer to
lose the track and grass instead of the crowd though. The crowd adds so
much to the racing experience.

Yes.....but do you fun in SVGA and at what frame rate.  It is a
personal matter of choice, but to run at 12 fps and with most all of
the graphics flipping on/off has little appeal to some.

I have a P90 with 16 megs, and perhaps not the best DOS video card.
Even in VGA mode, I have to limit the graphics to get what I consider
an acceptable frame rate and to avoid the in/out  display which is
important to me.

You guys are damn lucky!!!!   I stuck with a piece of shit when you are
with the highest quality machine.   I would give my last pair of pants to get
a p90 with 16 megs!!!

What do you mean by 'no problems'?  Do you run in VGA mode?  Some might
consider that a problem.  What sort of frame rates?  Many of us want
frame rates well over 20.  To us, anything less is a problem.  So I
(P90, 16M) don't think you can run will full detail and 'no problems.'

I recently purchased a Pentium 120 with 32M RAM expressly to run
NASCAR.  Even with this setup, my racing gets a bit choppy unless I
turn off at least grass texture and occasionly pavement texture.  The
folks at Papyrus told me the key to good racing is **LOTS** of RAM and
that video card quality has little bearing on decent fps speed.

I don't think the DOS extender (16 bit) that they are using will use more then 16 meg or RAM - same as Windows. The only
way I see to use other 16 Meg ( I have 32M also ) is to setup large smartdrive cache.

It runs reasonably well with all features on but you are right to get
optimum frame rates I have several of the features set auto.

Grass textures
Track textures
Fans in the stands (this one I set on/off depending on the track)

<<<

DOS/4GW (the extender we use with NASCAR) allos you to address up to 4
Gigabytes (the full 32-bit address space). (Thus the name DOS/4GW.)
