Papyrus-Say it ain't so!!!

Papyrus, please tell me that Nascar 3 (or whatever you want to call it) will
have Viper Racing-like body damage, updated graphics and physics like GPL,
and excellent force feedback effects.

Please tell me that N3 will be the greatest sim ever, with zillions of setup
options, great sound, and double-file restarts.

Please tell me that N3 will have 43 cars on the track, a career mode, and a
high-tech paintshop so that my cars look slick.

Please tell that N3 will support every video card on the market, have a good
framerate, intelligent AI, and a spotter who knows what's going on.

Papyrus, please don't tell me that N3 is based on your God knows how old but
still decent N2 engine.  Because I know that I am not alone when I say that
I like every game (oops - sim) that you have ever produced, and I love the
fact that each new one you make is better and more challenging than the
last.  Nearly everyone you see posting on this newsgroup thinks that you
guys are Gods for the incredible work that you do.  Please, Papyrus, don't
let Sierra force you to make a huge mistake and lose your religious
following by letting us get our hopes up for an awesome N3 and give us a New
for the Year 2000 Nascar2.  Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it would be great -
especially if it was updated - but the N2 engine has done enough, the GPL
engine is King of Sims.

Hoping for a better N3,
Ryan Kocher

My prediction is that NASCAR Legends will be based on the N2 engine

will be the NASCAR sim we have all been waiting for and based on the
GPL engine. I really do not think Papyrus could have spent all the
time and money they have basing it around the GPL engine, then flush
it all down the toilet for another N2 rehash.

I am revoking my last statement as I have read the simracing.com
article again. All I can say now is that I seriously hope this
Director of Sierra Sports doesn't really know what he is talking
about.

I would love to see N3 based on the GPL engine, too, except I don't see how
they can do it. I don't know what kind of frame rates you guys are getting in
GPL, but just thinking about having 43 GPL cars on a tiny little oval track all
at once makes my stomach hurt. Perhaps they can pull off some programming
tricks to do it, and perhaps by the time it's released, the machine will be
made that can handle it. Here's hoping, anyways. It would just be such a shame
for their next sim to take a step backwards instead of forwards.

Isn't N2 just a N1 with some added graphics and a slightly fixed chassis
physics?  I seem to remember that when we were waiting on N2 that that's what
was being said..  Just some odd graphics fix and a re-calibration of the driving
physics.

If that is true... when did N1 hit the market?  1991 or 92 I believe(?)  Now
how old is the physics engine?  Damn close to 10 years old.

Maybe someone could list everything that is different between N1 and N2 out
side of Graphics.

N1 hit the market in 94,  and N2, using a new graphics engine, hit the
market in late 96.

They use the same game engine.  Actually, the old game engine as you know
dates from IndyCar Racing 1, back I think it would be 1993.

Somehow, even the GPL game engine has some core stuff based on the old game
engine Im about sure.

You know, if you really think about it, the N2 physics engine probably dates
back to ye olde ICR1 game in some bits and pieces, although I think that N1,
ICR2, and all versions of N2 have VERY similar physics engines...just
adjusted for whatever car, champ or stocker, the game is on...PLEASE BASE N3
AND CART2/ICR3 ON GPL!!! PLEASE!!!!
