Has anyone seen a converter that allows a gameport device be plugged into a USB
port?

Thanks,
Ken

I'm not sure, but I just heard today there's something you can buy for $30 that
converts gameport-->USB, or something like that.

I'm pretty sure that the device you are referring to has to be built that way. I
was looking for something that would convert a generic game device into USB...

Same thing here, I have a converter from the sidewinder precision pro and
does not  work with any other controller I have (like the gravis gamepad).
The hardware needs to be USB ready, I doubt there is anyway around it.

A USB device is configured completely differently than a gameport device.
Your hardware (ie: joystick) must be USB capable. Because of the different
interface method, I doubt you will find any type of adapter that will do
this conversion.

Yep, that's what it looks like we will do...

Thanks

Indeed.  The Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro comes with a
Gameport-to-USB adapter, but a warning is included stating that
it is ONLY for use with this particular joystick.  That explained
to me why I'd never seen an adapter just on its own, even working
at a computer store.

There is no such thing....USB devices have programming inside them that tell
Windows how to set em up correctly....an adapter couldn't add that
functionality to any and every joystick on the market....

its a hardware issue....just wait for the USB version of said gameport
device to come out (:

But some of the newest joysticks/pads are delivered with both USB and
gameport connection. Two separate connection of course. :)
Just have to try one of those i guess.. :))

Oh, yes!

The Microsoft converter is _only_ for MS devices that have been
specifically modified for it.  It is not general purpose, and will
damage stuff if used in the wrong place.
