This was news to me- I had been trying to cool my tires off whenever
they came up to 220.

Anybody out there care to detail some of the ways to get tire temps
up? Obviously, inflation pressure is step one. And I've found that
even small shock changes radically change temps around the car, but
the pattern is very unclear, I guess because what it is doing most of
all is changing the way I drive the car. I've not seen enough change
with wing adjustments to warrant changing them for the tires.

It is that front-right tire at Long Beach that hardly even wants to
break 200- that is a real problem for me...

Rick Genter's wrong -- Terje Johanson is right!!  The optimum tire pressure at
road/street courses is somewhere between 220-235.  At 245-250, you're on ice.
(I've done the testing so don't try to tell me otherwise.)  The optimum temps
for ovals (because of harder tires maybe?) IS around 250, though.

Yikes! Now I am really confused! I have to say, I've always guessed
220 was about right. But our man Rick says differently. Maybe he was
talking about the harder compounds...

Papyrus really should have gone in to at least a *little* detail on
this in the manual. Unless I misunderstand, these numbers are simply
manufacturer's facts, not "mysteries of the track" we need to unravel
like wing adjustments or shocks. I've emailed them, oh, 3 times or so
asking about tires, never got anything back.

I've found that the softer compounds cannot handle the higher temp.
If I watch the tire temp window, soft tires go "yellow" at 230, but
harder compounds as used on big ovals are still "white" numbers up
through 250.   Watching the color of the temp reading may be more
informative than a flat figure---

When the tires flash yellow at around 230-ish does that mean
it's time to pit and change the tire?
Tankz in advance.

No, that just means you're running the tire a bit hot.  If you hit f5 and
it shows yellow on the graph, then you need new tires.
