Just did my first sub-10-minute lap of the 'Ring! Yes I know that's crap,
but considering I don't have time to do hour-long runs or anything like
that, 9m53 will do fine for me. First timed lap out (GPL rarely manages much
more than 3 laps of Nrburg on my computer due to overheating probs -
thinking of investing in a decent 3D-card), driving my newly-renamed
Cooper-Maserati, using Alison Hine's great car setup.
Would have been a much better lap if I hadn't spun a few times at
Hatzenbach and Schwedenkreuz, and if I hadn't stuffed it in the fence at the
Antoniusbuche.
Sorry for spouting on, I guess no-one is that interested - but it feels
GREAT!!

At least you know the turn names :-)

I use my own names like.

1. Fast downhill part
2. Slow jump
3. Shrub/twisty part.
4. First bridge turn
5. Second bridge turn
6. Third bridge turn -- go slow or lose a tire :)

You don't want to hear my entire list, right? hehe.

Jason.

Congratulations Ian!

Getting the Ring nailed down is very satisfying so I sure *can* understand
your e***ment, keep it up and you will find that the Ring becomes one
of the best tracks in GPL.

Personally the Ring is my favorite track, and I'm still amazed that anyone
had the balls to model such a complicated track in a sim, simply amazing to
be able to race at the Ring with 18 other online racers, kudos to Papyrus
for making this possible!

Keep racing that Ring.

Seeyas on the track.

Go get 'em, Ian!   I still remember my first sub-ten too.  The sub-nine's even
better!  About that sub-eight...........

The 'Ring; you gotta love it!  Worth the price of the game alone.

Jason,

hehe... that's the way I know the course too... if someone asked me to
*name* a section by name... well, I'd be doomed!

Yeah, I couldn't agree more.
I finally drove a 8:05.xx with a big mistake that costed me about 3 ot 4sec in
the last corner (don't you just love when you***the first or the last
corner?) 8-) this weekend.

Well, I can't wait to get my hands on Nordschleife again next weekend (I can only
simrace on weekends) as I will try to break into 7:5x 's d8-)

Making an almost perfect lap around Ring is nearly better then sex ;-)

And I finally found a setup that suits me around the track.

If you don't mind my asking, what chassis were you using?

The reason I ask is that my own best time in my Eagle is 8:22 and
I've done 3 or 4 different sessions with 8:22's but this seems to be
pretty close to the best I can get on the Eagle without some serious
overdriving or lawn mowing (I think I can shave maybe 5-8 secs more
with continued practice) but I've raced online with some great Lotus drivers
who seem to be in the 8:10's and even hosted a race where WW did
a jawdropping 8:03!

So I was just curious if you did the 8:05 in a Lotus or in another chassis,
I'm hoping to hear of other low times in some of the other chassis and
that 8:15 is not some invisible non-Lotus barrier :-)

Making a perfect lap around the ring is pretty nice, but I don't
know about "better than sex" hehe maybe close :-)

I was using a Lotti. I know WW did 8:02 with Eagle. I did 8:19 with Brabham,
but that was one lame
lap(even spun on one occasion) . I think Brabham can do sub 8min :-)
Just my thought.

Before this weekend I couldn't get sub 8:20 with Lotti.
When I finally memorized the track, I started pushing (20sec in 170 corners
is about 0.1sec per corner, not much, eh? :-)) and got quite easily in 8:0x,
then I did almost perfect lap but screwed it at the last corner. Doh!
(  It was still an 8:05.099 lap :)

I've run 8m07 in the Ferrari and I know that a sub-8m05 lap is possible.
If I get it all together for one lap I'm fairly sure I could scrape
8m02.
I've also seen an 8m02 in the Eagle and Wolfie has run 8m11 or something
like that in the Coventry.

I'll be going back to the ring when I get my new PC. At the moment even
when it is running as well as it possibly can I get a small hard disk
access every few turns. Not really detrimental to laptimes but annoying
all the same.

Ahh thanks for the info, much better to know a 8:02 is possible,
I'll just have to keep practicing, good thing practice at the ring
is a blast, I'll try and squeezing out those .01 sec in each corner
throughout the lap, just seems that everytime I get a good lap going,
I tend to back off towards the end to try and keep from ruining it,
have to work on that.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info, looks like I need to keep practicing :)
