GPaL Status Report

by Jack Ramb » Fri, 28 May 1999 04:00:00

Just a quick status update on GPaL for those of you that are interested (and
there seem to be quite a few of you!...the GPaL web site has had over 23,800
hits in the 30 days since GPaL was announced).

- While the project is progressing nicely with no major snags, there still
remain enough "fit and finish" details that the target date is being
moved...just 1 week...to Monday, June 7. While the *ultimate* feature set of
GPaL continues to grow, the focus is still on the initial feature set
revealed by the Sneak Preview screenshot. But the initial release won't go
out the door until its ease-of-use and flexibility is unsurpassed. So, it's
simply going to take a few more days. Bear in mind that, as is generally the
case in the wacky world of software development, this new date itself is not
"carved in stone," but rather is based on educated estimates.

- The compressed download file looks like it's going to be 3+ MB in size. So
if you don't have a high-speed Internet connection, please plan accordingly.

- GPaL may be available for download on other sites when released. If you
have a GPL-related site and would like to help get GPaL out to more people,
more quickly, and drive traffic to your site through referring links on RAS
and the GPaL site, please drop me a line!

- In an attempt to regulate traffic to the site so that everyone enjoys as
quick a download as possible, those that join the RaceLive/GPaL mailing list
will be given first access to the download site.

So, if you haven't joined the list or haven't seen GPaL, take a sneak peak
at www.RaceLive.com/GPaL!

GPL and GPaL...they're going to make a great team!

See here, Papyras and Tony George have gotten a hold of Jack Rambo and turned
him over to the dark side.  He's now part of the global *** to jerk us
around.  Rumor has it that a black helicopter has been spotted in his back
yard.

Just kidding, Jack.  We appreciate your efforts and will try to wait patiently.
Remember, I said TRY.

Give Jack a break.  If GPaL slips while he's off trying to reconcile
things with Tony George and Andrew Criag, then so be it -- either way,
the racing community will be better off for Jack's efforts . . .

Jack, some of my French compatriots will not be able to use this excellent tool
due to the language barrier. Any hope in getting this translated ?  Note that
being bi-lingual I volunteer to help if you were to go that route !
Let me know .....
