ICR2: how to modernize?

are people out there with their need for a CART sim playing ICR2 or CPR?  I
kinda liked CPR only to do hotlaps on.  Racing with other cars on the track
was completely wack.

Anyway, I sometimes see mentioned that people are still playing ICR2.  Are
there current carsets available and any other kinds of updated
patches/mods/etc?  If so, where can I find them?

Thanks in advance
-Jeff

I play it all the time.  The key is to run it in DOS not thru windows.  Go to
Pits.Com, Simracing.Com and there other sites with last years carsets along
with some other addon tracks like Chicago.

My biggest gripe with ICR2 was the traction. Was anything ever done that would
allow you to alter the traction ?

Traction was accurate I say, unless you never patched it.  There was a bug
in the software.  Ok the momentum was maybe a little high on mid-speed
corners.

If you want, just play with the TIRES/TIRE2 line in the track.txt to change
the track grip.

Why only run it through DOS?  I've run it in win95 with no problems.  Have I
just gotten lucky?

Yes! Most people have had serious framerate problems with the WIN95
version. Maybe you're running it on a PIII and the speed of the machine
is making up for the lousy code?

BTW-the menus in WIN95 are nicer to look at than the DOS ones, but I've
always had problems everywhere else with this version.

I often get over 50fps and no less than 30fps in Win98 with all cars and
graphics switched on.  i.e. it works fine:)

Ok - I think I was running it in a dos *window*.  I thought everyone was saying
you had to boot to DOS just to run it...
Nevermind.<g>
